I would eventually like to purchase a black-powder long gun with the look and feel of a revolutionary-war firearm. Though there seem to be several good rifled-barrel flintlocks out there (and I'll buy one some day), the number of smooth-bores seems to be limited. Any recommendations on a decent brand, and where to purchase it?

There used to be several good replicas of the Revolutionary War muskets available. I own a Charlesville imported by Navy Arms and several of my acquaintances have Brown Bess copies. At some point I believe there were alos copies of a couple of Harper's Ferry muskets. I enjoyed shooting my Charlesville and with a patched round ball it was accurate enough to take a couple deer. Check the used gun areas of the auctions and shops, you may find something you like.
