Announcing his passing, it was with a week left in August, right after we celebrated his and mom's latest birthdays.

I was just saying at work, how someday, I will inherit a very fine S&W 686 (no dash) but I'm in no hurry. Funny thing how fate works, I can't remember if it was my last day at work before he passed, or the day before. I still feel cheated out of time with Dad.

But I'm not here for sympathy, I'm here to talk about heroes and Guns. He left me a few nice pieces, more ammo than I knew he had (thanks for listening DAD!!) and lots of memories. Plus a nice little stash of Silver, Constitutional Silver, plus some rounds and bars

Lost my dad in 2013 one week before his 90th birthday. The last year of dad's life he needed a lot of help. Neither he, nor mom could drive and there were doctors appointments almost every week. I spent a lot of time with him the last year and felt pretty good at his death that we'd said everything that needed to be said and I had no regrets. Lost mom 4 years later under similar circumstances.

I feel that I did everything right, but every now and then I still think of a question I'd like to ask both of them.

Dad didn't own a lot of guns. I have his SXS shotgun with an interesting story. As well as my great-grandfathers 20 ga SXS.

Dad was a WW-2 vet and his unit had recently occupied a small village in Germany when the war ended. All firearms had been confiscated and were slated to be destroyed. But when the war ended an officer told them they were all fair game as war trophies. Dad picked out a brand new FN made shotgun, built a wooden box for it and mailed it home.

My Dad passed 42 years ago. I still think of him daily. It’s a debt we all must pay, I’m sorry for your loss. My Mother gave me this Winchester model 12 30” full 12 gauge after he passed. My Brother got his single barrel 20 gauge. IMG-0471.jpg

Here's the birthday cake and one of the nice toys he left me, 22s Beretta MINX with tip-up barrel, hammer fired all metal. Still a very light pocket gun and with the HV 22s ammo of today, it's no slouch at short range. I wouldn't want to get shot with it

Lost my second stepdad, who was the one from whom I got my first firearm when I was eighteen, two years after that, in 1986. Reconnected with my father, whom I had not known since age 2, around 1999. Turned out he and I had both done stints in law enforcement during the 1980s, he n Colorado and I here in Florida. We built a new relationship, part father/son, part amigos, that lasted until he died the week of Christmas of 2010 in New Mexico.

Though he had told me he had owned more firearms previously, he was down to a Charter Arms Undercover (made in 1966, my birth year) and a Ruger Police Service Six, which is visible in the picture he sent me once of him in uniform. Both of those guns are now with me.

undeRGRound, I'll carry his .38 today instead of mine and we'll share some father-honor.
