How many of you knew that Google was Anti-Second Amendment! I sure didn't until this morning. I read my emails today and low and behold a friend of mine told me that Google Ads on his fledgling site primarily initiated for Texas CHL Holders had been pulled.

Note: See http://www.CHLGrapevine.com for further details by the site owner.......

Any evidence to support they are in fact anti-gun? Google Ads could have been pulled for a variety of reasons.

Got any other proof? I seriously doubt that Google pulled the ads based only on the fact that it was a gun website.

Personally, I'm sick of seeing people complain of and boycott companies solely based upon their political views, whether they are true or hearsay.

The only evidence I have is what was told to me and what is posted at the site.........Go to http://www.chlgrapevine.com and read the article by my friend the site owner. NOT A POLITICAL VIEW AND NOT HEARSAY! YOU REALLY NEED TO LOOK BEFORE YOU SHOOT!.AND BY THE WAY, AS LONG AS WE ARE BEING TIRED OF PEOPLE DOING THIS AND THAT, I AM TIRED OF PEOPLE MAKING ACCUSATIONS BEFORE THEY KNOW ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT THE SITUATION!...........

I see that it says:

They blatently told me my AdWords campaign was shut down because it had to do with "firearms and the second amendment".

If that is indeed the case, wouldn't posting a copy of the letter/email from Google be more appropriate?

Google does it for the same reason that Paypal does it. Liability. In today's sue happy world of the America we live in, anyone can and will sue for anything. Say someone buys a guy from a site that Google linked them to. That person, in turn, uses it to kill little Johnny down the street. Little Johnny's parents can sue the killer, the person who the gun was purchased from, Google for pointed the purchaser to that site and hell, even the manufacturer. It's sad but it's the America of today. They're just covering their proverbial asses.

I do not know how they are against guns.

I just googled "handguns, rifles"
and it came back with about :what: 2,020,000 results

And maybe GOOGLE should have viewed his website before they agreed to sponsor? Ever think of that?

Maybe he should have read the content policy before he put up the ads.

+1. It says right there, before you submit your ads, "By submitting this form, you agree to the Terms of Service". He agreed to the terms of service, broke them, and had the ads pulled. Google is not at fault.

ALL THE ABOVE LINK DOES IS FURTHER CONFIRM GOOGLE'S ANTI-2ND AMENDMENT POSITION!

If that confirms google's anti-gun position, then I suppose they also are anti-fundraising, anti-gambling, anti-fireworks, anti-alcohol, etc.

Google is not anti-2A because of this. Give it a rest. If you disagree with their policy, send them an email expressing your discontent.

Could this have anything to do with part of their server grid residing in California?

On the one side:
I was interviewing with them a couple months ago, about the same time Al Gore was hucking An Inconvenient Truth and calling for the poor to give up light bulbs and the rich to buy carbon credits....
...and I heard inadvertently that he had some connection to Google.
Turns out he's a major shareholder. Major, like all he'd need to do to run for president is sell his stock, and have over 100 million in personal funds to spend.
Now, we all know he's been busy talking about how we broke the sky, but he's certainly no friend of the 2nd.

On the other side:
Google is a business. If they were truly anti, you wouldn't see search results coming up.
If they were even close to truly anti, they would at least treat guns the same way they treat porn: they'd have a disclaimer saying "hey, you're about to get gun results".
Even though they're connected with grabbers, I'm going with the idea that they're just playing CYA.

There is definitely a market for gun-industry-friendly ad serving.

I had applied to run google ads on my site, which contains shooting articles, not selling guns and they denied it.

Here is exactly what I got when I tried to sign up for AdSense on DemigodLLC.com:
Thank you for your interest in Google AdSense. Unfortunately, after
reviewing your application, we're unable to accept you into Google
AdSense at this time.

We did not approve your application for the reasons listed below.

Issues:

- Unacceptable site content
when I questioned, I got this reply:
Thanks for your email. As stated in our program policies, AdSense
publishers are not permitted to place Google ads on sites with content
related to certain weapons and weapon accessories, such as firearms,
balisongs, butterfly knives, and brass knuckles. Unfortunately, we're not
able to provide you with further details.

Thank you for the information Zak. I am not happy about Google's iffy stance on net neutrality either.

I use Yahoo. I wonder if they do anything bad besides report Chinese people to the government who try to get around the Chinese Government’s web filters?

You can sue anybody for anything, but that doesn't mean you will win. Frivolous law suits are being fought successfully.

Any so-called "search engine" that dumbs down its content to comply with communist Chinese censorship demands can't be worth patronizing.
As a publicly held company what option do they have? You owe it to your share holders to meet the demands to enter that massive market because if you don't your competitor will.

I am not happy about Google's iffy stance on net neutrality either.
I'm not familiar with their take, could you tell me more? I found this http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2005/11/vint-cerf-speaks-out-on-net-neutrality.html and it seems pretty reasonable. Not surprisingly either coming from cerf. As an ISP operator, I'm quite undecided.

Anyway back to the core of this thread, I don't see the problem. Google is an advertising company and they've decided they won't pay you to run ads on certain types of sites. They don't want to pay for things like tobacco sites either. if they were censoring search engine results it would be anti gun.

Yeah... I dont think that google would want to jeapordize its financial situation and HUGE growth to some political statement... with stock prices in the $500 I dont see it happening. Coincidence until proven guilty :D hehe
