I've been using Googles AdWords program for about 2 months now, and wanted to start using their AdSence program as well (which requires an
application).

I just received an email from Google that it is their company policy not
to allow gun related sites to advertise on the google network.

Among the other NO-NOs

* child porn
* selling prescription drugs
* selling alcohol and drugs

Notice these said SELL, NCGUN isn't selling anything, or even accepting Donations, so it has to be about guns. I realize they have a right to deny
anyone, but my god it seems like we are branded terrorist if we are Gun
Owners these days.

Just thought I would rant.

Google

Man Google is more powerful than people realize.... I think to somehow get back at them would require a HUGE, and I mean HUGE concerted effort like having the NRA, GOA, and all State Grass Roots Organizations members stop using their services. The problem with that is, those people NEED Google to advertise on the Internet. Google derives no money from it's search engine, it's all about their business solutions.

welcome to 2003

Google has a corporate "do no evil" policy
that views gun ads as a potential liability
Hello,

Thank you for your email. I apologize for the delay in responding to you.
You may post this reply in the forum if you wish.

As noted in our advertising terms and conditions, Google reserves the
right to exercise editorial discretion when it comes to the advertising we
accept on our site. At this time we do not allow ads for websites that
sell guns or related products.

Google believes strongly in freedom of expression and therefore offers
broad access to content across the web without censoring results. Please
note that the decisions we make concerning advertising in no way affect
the search results we deliver. We will continue to show search results for
guns and related products.

Sincerely,

Alana

RE: Harry Tuttle's post

Thats weird, they allow me to use Adwords (which I pay for), but not Adsense (which they pay me for). Of course, my ads are only showing to people that search a keyword from North Carolina so I guess my evil is geographically small.

I bet Janus/Brady is behind this, just like they were behind the companies firing employees with hunting rifles in their cars.

Google / Lmao

LMAO, after responding to GOOGLE with a carefully written response, I suddenly get a APPROVAL to start using AdSense. WEIRD.

Michael

NCGUN, if you don't mind, could you please share your "carefully worded response?"

I also signed up for Adsense and was rejected for the same reasons. (My site link is below).

I don't sell guns or anything else on my site, yet I was rejected. But, when I do searches for various gun-related terms, I find Adsense ads for Guns and Ammo magazine, and other gun-related stuff.

When I've replied to them, I've had no response.

I get a good number of visitors to my site--coming up on 125,000 a month now--but most of the pages wouldn't be effective for Adsense ads.

Nontheless, it steams me that Google regards anything gun-related as "evil."

Monkyleg

I noted their policy stated that "certain guns" did not qualify for my site since I have no reference to any certain gun, nor did my site advocate for any such gun.

I also noted to them that since they let me open a AdWords account, that denying me Adsence would be in direct violation of their TOS.
