Who goose hunts? This weekend will be my second time. I have my shotgun, 3'' Kent fast steel and some Federal BB loads, Mod choke, a blind that looks like crap and needs more vegetation added to it. We have about 1k acres of different cut wheat fields to hunt but they cut the wheat about 2-3 weeks ago. My buddy says they wont be using them because they are already fed out.

Right now I mainly need help brushing in the blind. I have some rafia on it but it doesn't look very good. Should I go out and grab some straw from the wheat field and zip tie it to the blind?

When ever possible I use what's available from the immediate surroundings, so I'd go with the wheat straw.

IF you've got time you can RIT dye the rafia. We use individual layout blinds to keep the profile low and remain maneuverable. Sometimes they just don't want to land on the "X" and moving a layout blind is easy.

Check out a local landscaper. There is an erosion control product made from straw woven into nylon mesh netting. Absolutely perfect grasslands/field camo in a semi-durable, infinitely customizable and relatively inexpensive format. I'll try to find you a link, might be able to order it from amazon. I usually just make a blanket weighted on 2 sides with a 2x2 with arm holes and lay right under it with the shotgun on top. I've had them literally land all around me in the decoys. https://www.amazon.com/Erosion-Cont...d=1630464953&sprefix=straw+ero,aps,287&sr=8-6

I just re-use pieces from work, but the product we buy in bulk is similar to this. Works well for seeding grass or food plot on slopes also.

Animals can notice recent changes in the environment. Too much can be just as bad as not enough. Consider your movement, contrasting clothes with the brush around you. On another point have you ever patterned your shells with a Mod choke vs. an Improved choke. I have with my Beretta Urika and decided to go with the Improved instead.

Are the geese coming in to land or are you pass shooting ? I find hunting over decoys a decent blind is important , if pass shooting I don't even bother with a blind . Movement and exposing your face to the sky spooks them pretty good . Geese are slow to react so just staying still is a major help . Good luck , goose/duck hunting can be some great fun .

This is the main thing!! You need to brush your blind and use local from the field stuff. We hunt 4 guys and 3 are grassing the blinds and 1 is putting out decoys. NOTHING is more important than well hidden blinds. The best callers couldn't kill crap out of poorly hidden blinds.
