Ok - got the very first Springfield XDe that came into the shop here - they put it on the side for me.

I haven't shot it yet - but I did rent one last week, and I liked it. I hope to try it later in the week.

Being that it is a single stack DA/SA just slightly bigger than the Shield - I just had to...

Congrats.

Since you actually own one maybe you can clear up for me what's up with the "safety". Is it a decocker or can you carry it cocked and locked?

As I understood it, it's safety/decocker it can operate either as a safety for cocked and locked carry or to decock for hammer down carry.

Unlike the older DA/SA Smith and Wesson semi autos, Beretta 92's and a number of other guns that you can only have the safety on after decocking FORCING you to have to carry hammer down.

It's a subtle, but important difference in my opinion which offers great flexibility and no negatives.

From the position pictured, you push upward for C&L. From the position pictured, you push downward to decock.

That is a potential issue if you go from cocked'n'locked under stress and go past safe to decock you won't get the nice SA trigger pull you were expecting.

This is the one thing that Beretta got right with the 9000FS pistols -- press up past safe to decock.

it works just like an HK USP decocker
I think Taurus came up with this system when they switched to the thumb magazine release -- I know I got mine in the early 80's before Glock made the striker fired polymer pistol market and HK's polymer offering was the hideous (as a semi-auto) VP-70

I suspect if you're jacked up on enough adrenaline to inadvertently decock the gun, you'll pull right through the DA trigger as well thanks to that same adrenaline. Conversely, if you're calm enough to notice the trigger pull, you're calm enough to work the safety without decocking.

My issue would be how hard I ride the safety; I'd likely decock it for every shot. :(

With a little practice, that can be overcome. I'm curious, do you have issues with the slide failing to lock back on many of your guns? I tend to bump the slide release if I ride the safety at all, and in general with a thumbs forward position.

When this first came out, I was thinking of supplementing my XD-S with one. I personally happen to like DA/SA in a carry gun. OP, I hope you enjoy yours!

I haven't seen one in the wild yet, but am looking forward to getting my hands on one. I like DA/SA guns, and 1911s, so this offers a lot. Hoping I can find one before the mag promo expires.

So... HOW DOES IT SHOOT?! It's horribly unfair of Shipwreck to post pictures of his new toy but not even a summary of the first range trip. I'm trying to live vicariously here, darn it!

Almost invariably, with polymer guns without safety levers. Just too used to riding hard on the safety of a 1911 or BHP.

If this works like the H&K decocker, that's a good thing for me. I think I'll check this one out.

It does and I'm told you can load/chamber a round with the safety engaged too.

I'll be interested in a performance report on the XD-e. It's features (DA/SA trigger with a decocker) peak my interest, especially since it is small. The safety is an added bonus.

I have an XD-s that I like but I'm just not comfortable carrying a striker fired pistol without a safety. But that is one of my idiosyncrasies and by no means feel that everyone should feel the same way.

Well, I sold it. I shot it - but I found I prefer the doublestack P2000sk 9mm I have. The XDe is actually the same size as the P2000sk, just a tiny bit thinner.

Maybe it was the thinner frame - but I found I had to work too hard to hit the center of the target,. The gun was accurate - so, it's not the gun. I just find I don't have to put that much effort into shooting my HK.

Gun is actually same weight at the P2000sk as well. And, I have a 10 round mag in the P2000sk compared to the XDe 8 round magazine (flush mag). In the fornt pocket of my cargo pants - both guns printed about the same. Decided the XDe wasn't for me. I knew I'd never actually carry it in favor of my HK P2000sk.
