Walked into local fun store and they had a new old 1858 clone in a brass frame and 44caliber for dirt cheap. I asked if they had any wiggle room on it and they knocked $20 more off it. It's a Richland arms 1858 knockoff. Supposedly the guy had it on a plaque in his office for a few decades.
I was already on the way to the range with my 1851 brasser clone so it went along for the ride and shoot. I got it real nice and dirty.
Had the wrong size caps for it but a little pinch made it run with 11s Spent a hour running plates at 40 feet with it. Ran great and had no issues!
Can't say that much for my 1851 knockoff. Couldn't hit a damn thing with it and it wasn't reliable.
I know the store owners well enough and they told me the guy who brought it in brought this and a steel framed 1851 in and the 1851 was loaded but with no caps. Lol! Funny but not funny.
I may try to pick up the 1851 steely if it makes it way in to the store.
I never used the 777 as I talked about in the first post. I just used about 17gr of pyrodex under a ox yoke wad , 454 ball and bore butter.
Bought a bunch of cigarette papers on the way home to try my hand at paper cartriges. The wife saw them and asked if I have taken to another hobby...
Good times. I like cap and ball stuff even if it is messy.
