Got my Lee Pro 1000 today

When I got time, I mounted it up to a 2x10 and set it up for .38/.357. I ebayed this thing for $42 plus shipping. It didn't have the primer tray or the auto disk powder measure, no biggy, I have an auto prime and a auto disk powder measure already. It did come with one die holder and a #1 shell plate.

Didn't take me long to set it up with my Lee dies and I cranked out a 50 round box flawlessly right off the bat. I'm very familiar with the priming system already, secret to it is to keep it loaded all the way up the chute with primers and it'll work fine, no problems.

I must admit, I now kinda wish I'd saved some money on the Dillon Square Deal and went with a Lee Pro 1000 in the first place. While the Dillon is a good machine, the Lee is much better than I'd reckoned. I'm more familiar with it. The Dillon does have a 4 die (includes crimp) system which is good. But, the Lee is so easy to switch calibers, it's crazy! And, all my dies work with it. I'm considering selling the Dillon and using the proceeds to buy multiple caliber set ups for the Lee. Not sure I'll do that, though. I'll probably just keep the Dillon for 9mm, but for sure all my other calibers will be loaded on the Lee. Actually, I have 9mm dies and could use the Lee for 9s, too.

For now, though, I need to get a .45 ACP shell plate and another die holder/head, whatever it's called, and I'll be happy.

yeah, I have 8 or 9 of those turrets all set up with diff calibers, just take one out and pop another one in... 5 seconds...

I am thinking of one of these and I have heard that they are really good when it comes to pistol calibers but rifle calibers are no bueno...mind you they can load them, but its difficult...

I would be using it for 38/357, 44 Spec, and 44 Mag.

Well, I don't load rifles in volume like I do handguns. I think I have a hundred rounds of .308 loaded. I've got lots of 7.62x39 stashed, price seems to be going up. I think I COULD load it on this progressive, but for the fact that the powder measure wouldn't work. I just do my rifles on my old Lyman press.

I THINK my friend bought a Hornady progressive because it could handle rifle calibers. I know there's a brand out there that does.

I guess I'm going to need a .45 colt shell plate for the Pro 1000, too. I'll set up for it and my .380 last. I don't shoot 'em all that much, especially the .380. I don't have a lot of brass for either. I need to start getting more .45 Colt brass 'cause that thing is a hoot at the range.
