I have never really been a huge fan of revolvers, I have always liked semi-autos better. I got my CCW permit awhile back and have been trying out a few different pistols. I was pretty much set on a "Pocket 9" and narrowed that down to a Kahr CW9.

One day when I felt it was time to go ahead and buy a gun I would like to carry, I figured I should give some snub nose revolvers a try. I went into a local gun store and Cabela's to try some out and got some helpful tips from some of the more knowledgeable salesmen who have helped me out before. I tried several out and went to Cabela's because of some coupons and an ongoing sale and went home with this:

A nice lil' Ruger LCR. I was absolutely blown away when I first picked it up. I was intent on getting a S&W Airweight, I didn't really know they had polymer framed revolvers out (I thought it was blasphemy). I squeezed the trigger... oh my gosh I think I may have found a new love for revolvers. Most DA revolvers I have shot had really heavy and gritty triggers. I felt that the LCR trigger was better than the CW9 trigger.

I was a little concerned about the 5 shot capacity, but then I realized if I am in a situation where I need more than 5 shots plus a speedloader, I have the wrong tool for the job. Plus, I am in Idaho. Not Southeast Bakersfield. Front page crime here is basically just shop lifting. I digress.

I love this revolver and cannot wait to get out to the range. My only gripe about the gun is that I wish the Hogue Tamer grips extended down to the pinky a little more, but this is meant for concealment. I have it loaded with Winchester Supreme Elite PDX-1 .38 +P. Thought I would try something else than the Gold Dots I have in every other gun.

The LCR is definately on my radar. I have an Autauga MkII dubbed "Noisy Cricket" that I am selling, and will pbly replace with the LCR. My problem is big hands. Only gettin 2-3 fingers on a weapon makes me feel like I am using something out of a gumball machine.

The small grips are something I don't like either. Plus, my hands aren't huge. The S&W Bodyguard had a better grip IMO. The trigger was pretty good on that gun as well but the laser was poorly designed.

The salesmen recommended the Ruger over the Smith, and it was less expensive. I will just have to get out to the range to see how it feels, otherwise I might be able to make some modifications to the grip.

Very good choice I hope to have one someday. Currently its out of my price rage so I carry a p3at. But I can see the LCR being better of a gun in many ways, and can fire it from a coat pocket unlike the p3at.

One good thing about a revolver with small grip over a auto is such as with the LCR you can get a higher grip on the gun than a auto. This is going to reduce flip which will not only help you keep hold of it but also improve accuracy.
