Hello to all,
I am new to THR and I am happy that I found a place with gun nuts like myself. Anyway I had to send off my Taurus 627 to get the thumb latch fixed because the cylinder would not lock. They fixed it and all is great, but they put a note in with the gun that said they recommend not shooting reloads. My question is how did they know? :banghead:
Thanks for any help,
Bobby

Welcome to The High Road. I hope you enjoy your visits. :)

Taurus probably didn't know, but because of the gun's condition they may have suspected that was the case. If you have been using particularly heavy reloads perhaps you should back off a bit.

Also most manufacturers recommend against the use of hand loaded ammunition to reduce their own warantee liability. What you got might have been a standard statement that had nothing to do with your particular case.

was told by Taurus but not sure if true...

I was told by a Taurus rep via the phone that they could tell what kind of ammo was being fired in their guns by the type of powder residue left behind. I was given the impression that in some situations they tested the guns to see why certain problems occured.

Sorry....gotta call "BS" on that one. Sounds like the Taurus rep either doesn't know what they are talking about, or they expect their consumers to be idiots. That statement is absolute crap. :scrutiny:

I agree

I agree it sounded like a line to me, also. I got the feeling he was trying to "warn" me not to use handloaded ammo. He came across somewhat rude to me but I did not feel like starting a fight with him so I let it go.

My guess would be, just like every other pistol company out there, they put that on there standard issue.

In other words they have no idea if you shoot reloads or not, they just put that on there as a reminder.
