I sent off my XD40 to have it mod'ed out by canyon creek.

The trigger work was the most important. Now instead of 5.5 pounds of take up, creep and mush, plus a long reset... it has 3 lbs, short take up, short reset! Replaced the factory fixed sights with dawson precision adjustable fiber optic sights. Refinished gun with Hard Chrome (to replace the factory finish which wears off rapidly). When I got it back I replaced the captive guide spring with Don's Stainless Guide Rod and applied Sandpaper decal grip to the frame and trigger guard. Now with my Minor 40S&W loads, I'm ready to rock some production-class IPSC .

attached are some poorly taken pics (what can I say, I read the FAQ's on taking nice pictures but I don't have any gizmo's or lighting sources).

"old xd" is the factory stock XD40.

A couple years ago, I was on the verge of buying an XD. The range I frequent had one in 9mm, 40 & 357sig. I liked the feel and the accuracy but the trigger pull was inconsistent from sample to sample. The 357sig was really long & heavy, the 40 felt a little mushy and the 9mm seemed shorter and lighter. If work can be done to improve the XD trigger the XD 357 might be back on my want list :)

Thanks for sharing and I hope your XD shoots as well as it looks - very sharp.

Bought a XD 9mm Subcompact recently, like the feel of the gun overall, have no issues with the sights but the trigger is very stiff, easily feels in excess of 5lb and too long. Have shot approx. 350 rounds thru it and while I've become somewhat used to it and being somewhat of an average shot I can
consistently offhand 2.5in groups at 25yds.

Is a 3lb pull so light that you could gack a round off getting onto the trigger in a stress situation? I'm assuming that the trigger safety works just as effectively as before.

Shooting paper obviously is very controlled, I'm wanting to have my trigger cleaned up but don't want to get to the point where I could goof up if I was in a hurry to get it out and in my hand.

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts.

congrats, that looks great, i love the two tone, that is sweet! i have the dgr too, and i love it it is a great choice, with the wolff springs of course.

ZOMBIE THREAD ALERT!!!

four year update.

I still shoot my XD40 in IPSC using Minor PF 40S&W. Great gun.

Two flaws:

1) The trigger job causes the gun to be more hesitant going into battery. It's not an issue when shooting a match, but when teaching new shooters, if they "ease" the slight at all it won't go into battery.

2) When the overtravel stop screw is set to max the trigger pull great, however, in cold weather the frame contracts length wise and the overtravel stop screw is too long to allow the gun to fire. So I had to move the overtravel stop screw, now it fires in cold weather at the expense of slightly more overtravel.
