In other threads I sought and received help for a falling block .45-70. Finally decided and bought, couldn't be happier, so far. I have brass, pri$ey Winchester brass. After a long search I have powder, H4198 to start. The next hunt was bullets, but located 300gr coated and 405gr on the way. Now, LR primers .Virtually unobtanium :(

Semi-score. Dixie gun works (no idea how I landed there) has/had Remington 9-1/2 large rifle primers. Yay. Otherwise I could not fire the new rifle. Ready?

100 @ $9.50. ugh, Maximum, 2 boxes, $19. Excuse the pun, bite the bullet. $7.95 shipping, now at almost $27 for 200 sales limit. [sigh]

Oh yeah. $30 hazmat fee. Now I'm feeling ... taken advantaged of. BUT. I have beautiful new Sharps 1874, everything except out of stock factory ammo and everything reloadable except ... :cuss:primers. {sigh} $57+ for 200. Take it or leave it. 200 limit, so no bundling to offset hazmat. How bad do I want to shoot my new acquisition? Bad enough. Not proud.

-jb, just moaning

PM me your address. I’ll send you a couple hundred CCI-200’s for free. Who knows how long this sh*t show will last.

Word on the web is that you can't ship primers unless you are authorized to do so, which requires training and fees.

Just FYI.

You might want to check this out before you ship if you are not authorized to do so.

Also, they require special packaging.

It's worth checking into. Here's a resource.

https://www.ups.com/us/en/help-cent...ts/hazardous-materials/responsibilities.page?

The concern is, #1, it might requires special packaging to ensure it is safe; #2 according to the UPS website failure to follow hazardous shipping regulations - "Violators face considerable civil or criminal penalties (see 49 CFR 107; subpart D, for baseline civil penalties and fines)."

https://www.ups.com/us/en/help-cent...ts/hazardous-materials/responsibilities.page?

Given these considerations, one should inquire about what is required should they want to ship primers or powder.

Ya see? That's why we're here :) Can't thank you enough Real, but as noted, we'd be into HazMat fees, yada yada. And as Virginia Jim tells us, so sayeth the government, "We are the Borg, resistance is futile" or some such as the grandkids tell me. :D

Regardless, I appreciate the offer, and I'll try to report on the first 20 go-bangs.

-jb, appreciative

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. :)

$9.50 per100, a 200 primer limit and a $30.00 hazmat fee is a pretty tough row to hoe.

BUT, it beats the heck out of staring at an expensive and totally useless rifle for the next ?? months...

Perzakly my feeling.
I see a lot of "I found zqxy" stuff online. Guess I'm just saying, I want to shoot, but not forever at this price. BUT, I'll be happy to report the fun I have shooting them up!:):)

Orrrr, send him the brass and let him prime them for you. Then he can legally send them back. Primed brass requires no HazMat.
That’s the answer!! For several reasons.
Cause you screw around with the other stuff and you ruin it for all of us.
Internet sales and shipping of all things firearms are in the crosshairs of the incoming administration. Let’s police ourselves.

One of my best friends is short on LR primers. I’m giving him two boxes of a thousand each Federal I have. Still leaves me with a couple thousand. I’ve sold all my rifles that use LR. I used only magnum now

His son is getting heavily into Reloading so I gave him 16# of Varget.

If I could legally ship them, I’d give you a few hundred. I’ve think I’ve got Federal, Winchester, and CCI

Considering loaded ammo, online, is starting @ $2.70/rd plus shipping you didn't do too bad for yourself, IMO. The upside is you're going to be able to make smoke from your new boomstick, worth it ;).

Actually, I just traded up some SRM primers for some LRP's here, locally, with a listing here in the FS/FT. Although southern Colorado is kind of remote, you never know.

Also, I don't know how close you are to I-40 in NM, but I'll be driving across there in a few weeks, headed to NV. I could peel you off a few trays, too.

I see 1000 primers listing at well over $200 and I shake my head. However I won't say never. While I still have a good stockpile it won't last forever and the day could come when I'd pay those prices. Who knows, it might get even worse.

I will say "never"...eventually. I have before, I'll do it again. It's all personal choice, but I've always refused to pay gouged prices for "unnecessary" items, even if that means I go without. I don't "need" to go shooting every week if it means paying some gouger $200+ for a case of primers. I'd rather they choke on them.

That's me. I learned from the last Dark Ages, and generally stocked up... but, as usual, a few things slipped through... like LR primers and IMR4198. I'll use what I have, and when my component stash gets to the Danger Zone, I'll stop if I can't find it for a reasonable price, or trade for it.

I have often wondered in these crazy times that folks don't have a good friend or friends who will give, loan or sell components. Next to family, good friends are to be revered.

My fist panic was post election 2008. Then it was 2012, 2013, and a very short lived panic of late 2016 before the election results came in. This COVID/Civil unrest/election one is one of the worse I've seen this side of 2013, "post Newtown". I learned my lesson well, got when the getting was good, and dove into reloading early 2019 when components were at a low.

I'm down to about 1.25 lbs of Unique. That's just under a case of my house load 44 magnums. I'm also down to about 1.5 lbs of IMR4227. Using that in 44 magnum and 460, it won't last long either.

I'm ok on primers and will be for at least a couple more years...and that's if I do not choose to slow my shooting down.

If that happens, I'll buy a nice bench 22LR savage and start tearing into the 10K 22LR I have sitting around. Where there's a will, there's a way.

CCI-450s for me, 900+ left. May have to substitute another primer next year if things don’t come around, and it isn’t looking good for 2021.

Tough times, learn from it, stock up during the next time of plenty

1984 for me.

LOL...yeah, I'm not very old, I'm only 43. I didn't really start getting into firearms until 2006. I shot for years with my father, but never had an interest in them personally much before '06.

What was '84?
