I got hit in the arm with a flake of lead from a .38 while shooting steel once. Next time I shot there I got another one, it hit my chest and stopped on my shirt. Both of them felt like I had been poked with a hot needle for just a second.

I've been hit so many times during USPSA matches and Bowling Pin matches that it's become normal for me. The only time it drew blood was when a ragged piece of jacket came back at me and grazed my left hand. Took a chunk of lead in the shoulder once but it hurt about as much as a a paintball.

However, I now have a habit of standing behind the nearest "big guy" while somebody is shooting at steel/pins.

:neener:

Leave the lowcuts at home. I've also seen guys wearing flanel shirts catch brass. With no t-shirt thats fun to watch too.
No foolin. 10mm is especially bad for this. Hotter than blazes goin down the back of your shirt. :uhoh:

I haven't had any ricochets, yet, but was bloodied in the face from the bullet of an ill-timed .44 Magnum. (Not mine) The forcing cone shaved off a nice piece of the slug and somehow sent it neatly into my face. Glasses are definitely a must for me and always have been. I like shooting in the winter, also because I keep my heavy leather coat on. Our ranges are not extremely warm.

In the pits at a USMC range, a bullet hit the metal lip, spun into the air and landed on my shoulder.

Shooting 12 ga. slugs at a state police range in Brasil, the door opens and a cop stick his head in and says can we please not shoot whatever it is, because his desk is on the other side of the backstop, and the wall is BULGING OUT AT HIM.

Wow, this happens more than I thought.

Anyway at the 50 ft indoor range, watched my partner shoot his .45. Then, I watched this flattened out piece of lead come skittering back down between him and I. I picked it up and said, "look, your bullet" and threw it his way. While in flight he says "naw, no way." Then, he caught it.

It was a bit hotter than a hot potato. :)

I was shooting 45 acp 230 gr. jacketed solids with my friend standing behind me, he got hit in the forehead with so much force it knocked him down, left a nice gash. It was a 50 yd. range and jacketed bullets are allowed.

always wear eye protection!
