So... some of you know that I have been looking into purchasing another 1911 and I really do appreciate all of your advice. I ended up with a stainless Colt Series 80. Took it to the range today, and I could not be more pleased. :D Here are some pics:

The siblings reunited! Now I need to find a decent double shoulder holster for these 1911s. Anyone know of a good website or manufacturer? I know El Paso Saddlery makes double shoulder holsters, but I would like to poke around to compare prices.

Double shoulder holster? You really DO like those zombie movies, huh?

I do like zombie movies, but its Bruce Willis' Last Man Standing that gave me the itch for a double shoulder rig.

Those zombies better run and hide now!

Nice set of pstols you have there. Where did you get those black flamed grips?

Same here. I actually posted early today for someone to make these!

What I did was go to a leathersmith and have them split open the zipper seams on a leather jacket I had (Schott Racer), and put soft leather holsters inside, then stitch it into the jacket. Access to them is via a snap vent in the inner liner. I took cheap nylon dual mag pouches and had them stitch them into the jacket along the waist. It came out very nicely, and I can carry two 1911s and four mags completely concealed and comfortably (granted I do look a little heavier!). it cost about $100 total to modify the jacket at the seamstress.

The reason for all this was I once had a motorist try to kill me while I was riding a motorcycle (he was drunk - apparently - and went into instant road rage after I blew my horn when he barged my lane). The only thing that saved me was a friend was riding behind me, saw the whole thing, and responded by brandishing his gun - we were both on the way to the shooting range, not that we carried back then - which drove the guy away. It taught me the value of having a gun you could reach with strong OR weak hand. When on a motorcycle, and you are right handed, you cannot use your strong hand to access a firearm (nonsense movie stuff with Tom Cruise in MI2 aside). You need to have a second weapon off-hand accessible, or a firearm or weapon equally accessible to either hand (very hard to do).

PS - I like your 80. Looks classic. I bought a 70 last year, blue with ivory (faux) medallion grips last year, and it's now my favorite. And I do not find the standard safety to really be a problem, like you mentioned. I see yours has tall sights, a long trigger, and a flat MSH. All nice things, and about all a basic colt needs to be a totally fun shooter and carry weapon.

Hogue makes flame grips in multiple color options.

That's a good friend you have there!

I've been pleasantly surprised by my stainless "new roll mark" Colt (same as yours). Good choice, though the trigger could be better :barf:.

That pair puts Dolly Parton to shame.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I love Colt semis!
**Revolvers, too, but out of my league right now**

I picked up a series 80 right before Christmas. I've been quite happy with it. for the price i paid it was a pocket rocket!!

it's getting a lightweight hammer, videki trigger, match sear, etc(that's the way i like a 1911 to look+feel).

good luck with yours!!

:D

Almost like a Good vs. Evil competition in the last photo.

Purdy Colt. The white grips set it off, almost like a modern day Patton special.

The black one is hawt.

Yeah, I liked the movie also. He was firing like in full-auto..:) Unfortunately, in NM, ol'Bruce would be arrested. Only 1 can be concealed by our laws, and probably in many states.
Let us know when you locate mfgr's that make double-rigs...

Nice. I highly recommend getting rid of that cheesy trigger though.

The gold one? or the plastic one?

JK. That is the most pimped out Taurus I have ever seen. I actually like it. I've always want a nickle 1911 with pearl grips.

Just because.

It's been over a year now, but one of our members started a thread because he wanted a double-rig like the one in Last Man Standing. He got a custom maker to build one for (I believe) $250.00 or more, but later changed his mind and tried to sell the rig. I don't know how things came out.

Now those that are more inventive, and have less money, can buy two replica USGI flap holsters, left & right (I'll have to look up a link if anyone is interested), buy some leather straps from Tandy Leather - along with some rivets, and make their own outfit for far less $$$. All you do is attach the straps to the open flap(s) and trim off excessive leather.

Looks like the movie set-up, so everyone will think you're Bruce himself.

Thats just messed up.
