I do like zombie movies, but its Bruce Willis' Last Man Standing that gave me the itch for a double shoulder rig.
Same here. I actually posted early today for someone to make these!
What I did was go to a leathersmith and have them split open the zipper seams on a leather jacket I had (Schott Racer), and put soft leather holsters inside, then stitch it into the jacket. Access to them is via a snap vent in the inner liner. I took cheap nylon dual mag pouches and had them stitch them into the jacket along the waist. It came out very nicely, and I can carry two 1911s and four mags completely concealed and comfortably (granted I do look a little heavier!). it cost about $100 total to modify the jacket at the seamstress.
The reason for all this was I once had a motorist try to kill me while I was riding a motorcycle (he was drunk - apparently - and went into instant road rage after I blew my horn when he barged my lane). The only thing that saved me was a friend was riding behind me, saw the whole thing, and responded by brandishing his gun - we were both on the way to the shooting range, not that we carried back then - which drove the guy away. It taught me the value of having a gun you could reach with strong OR weak hand. When on a motorcycle, and you are right handed, you cannot use your strong hand to access a firearm (nonsense movie stuff with Tom Cruise in MI2 aside). You need to have a second weapon off-hand accessible, or a firearm or weapon equally accessible to either hand (very hard to do).
PS - I like your 80. Looks classic. I bought a 70 last year, blue with ivory (faux) medallion grips last year, and it's now my favorite. And I do not find the standard safety to really be a problem, like you mentioned. I see yours has tall sights, a long trigger, and a flat MSH. All nice things, and about all a basic colt needs to be a totally fun shooter and carry weapon.
