Was watching sons of guns last night and during a commercial break the staff was standing in front of a table with tannerite on it and they said"these are the tools of our trade and we are trained and licensed to use it so don't try this at home". The same time auction hunters was running and they found a unit with over 100 AR mags still in the packaging and said they had to find a buyer because they can't cross the state line with the mags. The best was on gold rush when they showed Dakota fred shooting his revolver during some down time. As far as I know these guys drove from the states to Alaska with their firearms meaning they had to drive through Canada. I know they are TV shows But I imagine there are people who believe this crap.

I haven't watched too many of them but I've also noticed a boat load of fiction to each of the episodes. And all the while their wives and daughters are dressed disgracefully to bring in all the teen boy viewers.

I saw a Mythbusters once where they said "We have police permission and supervision".

But that is the country we are moving to...

:scrutiny:

unfortunatelly, depending on the state they were in, and the next state they were heading to.....this may be correct, as some states still have the AWB, making selling them and possibly even owning them questionable.

As for 'Sons of Guns'......any gun show which my wife will actually ask me not to watch the new episode until she can watch it with me....is a VERY GOOD THING!

I didn't care much for SoG originally. Then I watched American Guns.....and SoG instantly became an Emmy candidate! :D
It's just a TV show.

I initially rolled my eyes at that comment too, but then remembered they are based in California and bought those mags in Arizona IIRC, so they are probably correct.
The shows aren't made for people knowledgeable about firearms, but at least they show guns (usually), so they are still more entertaining than a lot of the other "reality tv" shows.

Disassemble the magazines and they're GTG. No law against a few boxes of parts.

Fishslayer is correct, just take them apart and that's all they are...parts.

The worst new show has to be doomsday preppers, why would you go on TV and show everyone what you have. Or how stupid you are by blowing off the tip of your thumb!!!

Those shows could be OK if there was less nasty tattoed skin showing, and no explosions.

pockets- I couldn't agree more. -with everything in your post. My girlfriend is hooked, and I find 30-60% of each episode of SoG to be entertaining if not worthwhile. Funny side-note, ever since the Nambu type 14 was featured on the last episode, my type 14 photos on Flickr have received many more hits than usual, especially the disassembled photo. :) If people are image-searching featured firearms from tv shows, a few must also be 'knowledge'-searching them too right? The way some things seem to be going with firearms laws, I think promoting general interest in shooting or collecting is a very good thing.

I watched the first episode of American Guns and that was all I needed to see, there were some sweet firearms in the show, but I'm still not sure it's worth watching... However, if any THR users would like to suggest particular 'must-see' American Guns episodes, I will very likely check them out.

50 shooter has it correct. Why would you go on national t.v. and tell the world what you have and don't have.

Except for American Guns, I enjoy all of them, to one extent or another.
Some random thoughts:

Sons of Guns: It feels less upbeat, more choppy and scripted this season than the last two. I'll still watch it, but I'm less enthused...BTW, the "autocannon guy" is from Pennsylvania, and appeared on a Current.TV segment about Knob Creek.
Alaska Gold Rush: I give them kudos for "arming up" out there, but during season 1 episode 1 they depicted the "buying spree" of provisions, and it seemed like they bought far more guns and ammo than they could possibly need (I'm not in favor of ownership limits, just seemed like they could have been more frugal, given their tight financial situation). In addition, I don't think they drove the weapons through Canada (at least not the handguns) - there was a cursory scene mentioning the weapons going into containers to be loaded up on the ferry, which bypasses the Canadian import issues altogether.
Doomsday Shows: I think they're fun to watch, and I say, "meh" to the whole "violating opsec" aspect of showing the bunkers on TV. The locations are generic enough (I think) - In a really bad situation, a lot of people that may have watched these shows will be dead or incapacitated. "Hey honey, where was that cool bunker with enough stuff to feed all six of us? Oh, that's right - I can't watch the repeats, cable and power are down." I think most people will be too preoccupied/scared to go on anything more than a short journey to look for one of these bunkers. If they're well hidden they may not even be found. And if they are, they look quite defensible.
My biggest issue is how are people going to get to their doomsday shelters - take that one fellow who lives on the Florida coast, but has a shelter up in the Georgia mountains. He's mostly concerned about Tsunamis, which probably have the shortest warning buffer of just about any large-scale disaster.

I don't watch much TV at all, there is a reason they call it "programming".

Agree

The only time my TV is turned on is to watch a DVD or play a game on my PS3.
I have the bare-bones cable only because its cheaper to have the "package" deal to get my broadband, otherwise I would cancel it.

There is simply nothing on worth watching.
