What I found interesting (troubling?) was that the ATF agent refused to divulge her name....I am not familiar with the ATF (Thankfully), but don't other government agents usually show you an ID? It wasn't as if she was undercover.

Bob
That did strike me as odd, especially since being one of the "agents" sitting at a table giving out cds/dvds/papers doesn't exactly hint of undercover work.

You all realizes that the NFA and all the rest of the ATF regulations have never been found to be Constitutional. The only time they were challenged, the guy died before the case came before the SCOTUS and the Court found that since there was no argument to contrary found for the Feds. Now explain why the NRA has never challenged the basis for the ATF's existence, the NFA of 1934.

And what does any of this have to do with the OP?

In formal situations, absolutely. In an informal situation, like recruiting booths, informational booths, parades, etc only rarely - there's little need to identify oneself officially.

To the collector/dealer in the article, I'm sure he saw a badge and credentials.

When asked if setting up a table at gun shows was something new, the ATF representative, who would not divulge her name, said that doing so was customary but that it had never been done in Abilene before. She said the ATF had always had a limited presence at gun shows but that her purpose there was educational only.

sounds to me like she (agent) didn't have the blessings of the ATF to be making statements and just gave a canned answer to the press..

I asked em if they were making people uncomfortable and got 2 shakes for no and one verbal response of no and a slight smile..

egad, they were human..

Duh! You can't really see the truth when it is front of you. The ATF doesn't have the Constitutional right to do what they are doing? Can't you see the truth for all the government flash and glitz? Do you actually believe the government is doing anything for you? You people are worse than the Brady Bunch, at least they are consistent. How with and good conscience can you think that the ATF is ever right? The ATF was one of the agencies created after Prohibition ended to keep all those wonder do gooder employees, oh yeah and to keep their supervisors in power.
