:banghead: Hey it is time to buy up all of the Ruger Gp100s you can before the price goes up. According to CSI Miami the Ruger GP-100 is a rare gun.... the Gun Guru babe was checking out a scene and someone pulled a gun on her  and cocked it, then ran away. She then went back to the lab and had a coworker cock a bunch of different handguns behind her, she identified the Ruger GP-100 and stated it had a different sound because of the hammer block safety. She then stated that the GP-100 was a rare gun :what: ????
I gotta go buy one now. :banghead: :banghead: I hate inaccurate Hollyweird

ROTFL after that scene. I thought it was the funniest statment made on that show to date. She made it sound like the transfer bar safety was something very unique. That only Ruger GP100's were equiped with them. This show seems to always have bad info. Yet I watch it because it is entertaining.

I guess I better put mine up for sale on Gunbroker for $5000 and advertise it as the rare gun as heard about on CSI miami.

Dumbass writers!

I always thought it was a little odd how forensic officers did everything on that show, from collecting blood samples, to interviewing suspects. It seems like the only reason they have a detective on the show, is so that he can slap on the handcuffs on the perpitrator at the end of the show, and so that the CSI can say "what have we got" to someone at the beginning of the show. I know there are alot of cops on this board, so it has to be asked.....that's not really how you guys operate over there, is it?

About the GP-100...well if we can still buy them here, then they are definatly not rare!

Better yet, good ear, I couldn't tell the difference between someone cocking a ruger, or opening a can of coke....ok mabey not that bad.

They won't get me .... I know how to fool them.

I took the transfer bar out of my Ruger's so now no one can identify them no matter how often I cock one.

Boy am I smart ... :D

Fuff: Very devious.

Thread: those are some doofus screenwriters. This kinda stuff makes me glad I don't own a TV.

I mean, even the name. Short of stamping "ACME" on the barrel it's hard to come up with a more general-purpose sounding gun than "GP-100."

"I took the transfer bar out of my Ruger's so now no one can identify them no matter how often I cock one.

Boy am I smart ... "

Fuff, you'll save a LOT of money on ammo that way too!

OK good I didn't hear wrong last night. I was very confused when they said Ruger and Rare in the same sentence. I wasn't like it was one of those mythical uber accurate mini 14's that the A-Team had.

I was commenting on this to the old lady last night said i could run down to local shop and pick up 6-7 of them

ROFL

I could pick up an easy 25-30 right here in town in various gun dealer and sporting goods stores showcases. That doesn't include what's in the back room. Guess I better get on it before the shortage reaches Oklahoma.

Did it at least sound right? I love the scenes in westerns where the barkeep thumbs back the hammer on his mule-eared double, or the buffalo hunter cocks his Sharps, and you hear the distinct click-click-click-click of a single action revolver being cocked!

Ya know all these CSI shows probably have fan forums somewhere.

A knowledgable gunnie could have a lot of fun pointing out all the firearm related mistakes to people who might otherwise not know the difference.

Got one better...last night on 24(my favorite show) the BG emptied his uzi and it did the "click, click, click.click" thing......seems like every season finally of this show has some bad gun stuff in it..... :banghead:

sound

I don't know about the GP-100, but when I had a Redhawk I always thought the sound produced by cocking it was quite distinctive. I'd bet I could pick it out of the line up with my back turned, even with my shooter's ear. I don't know whether the transfer bar had anything to do with the distinctive sound though.

A local gun shop has a GP-100 that was shipped from the Ruger factory with no front sight blade. Does that make it rare?

It's bad enough when a stupid gun comment is made even casually on TV. But when it's done on a show like CSI, where such details are an integral part of plot development, there's no excuse. It's just lazy screenwriting - video pap for the masses. Makes me wonder how many experts in other fields watch the show just to catch mistakes in such details.

What got me more Monday night was 24 (spoiler alert if you still haven't seen it yet) When the Secret Service guy is looking for Jack, i thought it looked like the slide on his pistol was locked back. Then he started shooting but never reloaded. that seemed very odd to me.

"...when it's done on a show like CSI..." It's still TV. Reality doesn't apply. I find it especially amusing in the Vegas version when they talk about 'checking the registration'. No registration in Nevada.
"...started shooting but never reloaded. that seemed very odd to me..." No need to reload on TV or in movies. It's done by the prop guys.

Here's betting some CBS loon had heard "Luger" and that they were rare and confused it with the "Ruger" we all know is certainly not rare. That, even though Luger revolvers don't exist to my knowledge.
