Rare Gun? or Why CSI is Stupid

Ever see a movie about your profession? Seeing one about mine (Pushing Tin) made me realize just how screwed up hollywood can get it. It really makes you realize how 'off' alot of movies and TV shows probably are. Entertaining? Sure. Accurate....not really.

You mean you guys don't really stand at the end of the active runway and let the turbulance from a departing 747 bounce you around???

What channel does that show Shootout come on?
That's a cool show.

And yea, Discovery and TLC really really really blow these days.
It's bad enough that that home decor crap was on everything channel, but Discovery was my channel. The only one I could watch without puking. =(
They still have good stuff every so often though...the Military channel is nice...sort of.
I think it's the History channel that Shootout comes on...great channel.

I've never seen any of the CSI shows, and I'm not interested in changing that.

One of my friends who was a career military officer used to love watching JAG. On that show the commanding officer was a SEAL (because "action guys" really aspire to become Former Action Guys), the lead male character was a fighter pilot (who had a vision problem that kept him in the Law until the script demanded he fly) and his partner was the youngest (and hottest looking) female Marine Lt. Col. I have ever seen. -In the words of my friend "It was the best comedy on TV."

My favorite part of JAG was the money that these military officers must have been making.

All these mid-level military officers driving around in classic Corvettes and Lexuses just didn't seem too realistic. Then there was "Harm" living in a huge, and nice, loft in DC (Georgetown?) or Arlington that is bigger than most houses. Yeah right (think prices near what such a place would cost in Manhattan). Then there were the two low level married officers (a Navy Lt. and his Ensign wife) who had a kid and lived in a huge, really nice, suburban VA or MD home- a house like the one portrayed would be $500-800K around here (possibly over $1mil in some parts of the area). I doubt such low ranking officers could afford it (especially after the Ensign took like a year off her job after having her baby).

But it was often a fun show to watch so I ignorned such things and enjoyed the mindless entertainment.

I heard this show has actually sold a lot of TVs!

In fact, I just sold mine last week. :D :D

As William Shatner told a Trekkie who wanted to know what Captain Kirk was thinking in a particular scene, "It's just a TV show. Get a life!"

Cheers,
ChickenHawk

My wife loves that show. I saw that episode too and laughed pretty hard. I can't stand watching it, and the wife can't stand me watching it with her with my negative comments.
