GP 100 Grips

What do you prefer?

1. The classic grips (rubber w/wood inserts and NO finger grooves)
2. Modern grips (hogue w/finger grooves)
3. No preference



For me, the classic grips fit me perfectly. I love the shape of the classics, and like that I don't have finger grooves on them -- finger grooves never fit me anyway. Plus, I like to grip the revolver how I want to without the constraints of finger grooves.

Even though Ruger doesn't offer the classic grips anymore, one can still buy them on Ruger.com so I'm stocking up on the classic grips while they are still available as an aftermarket upgrade.

Actually, I prefer the rubber grips with the wood panels the GPs used to come with over the finger groove Hogues. Those finger grooves are in the wrong place for my hands.

In the end, I prefer wood stocks with no finger grooves; not sure which exact brand I'd go for on the GP though.

I agree with Tango. My GP-100 has Hogue wood grips with No finger grooves. If money were no object I would be tempted to try a Herrett Roper style on it but you have to ship the revolver to them for fitting. At one of the Ruger Forums there was a picture of a GP-100 with Badger grips on it without the finger grooves!. They can be ordered without the grooves from Jim Badger. I think Eagle may make a grip in the traditional target style for the GP, too.

My Alaskan, same grip as the GP 100, wears the old style Letts with the wood inserts. IMHO, one of the best revolver grip designs ever.

The old Ruger rubber grips with the "wood panels" are one of the few factory grips that I actually like for shooting. I generally don't like finger groover grips. They are great if they fit you and you shoot one handed, but I usually shoot with two hands.

I just "upgraded" from the factory grips with wood side panels to the Hogue tamer rubber monogrip with finger grooves. It's a bit larger than th normal hogue monogrip.

So far, It seems to fill my palm better, and I like the black-on-stainless look better.

One issue I've noted with som revolver grips is they seem to thin at the top- the tamer seems better for me in this way.

My gp100 3 inch stainless has the hogue w/groves and I like them. I ultimately will get some custom wood grips for it for the look's. The hogue's shoot good with my hand's, I use a one hand with overlaping second hand over finger's and knuckles type grip if that makes any sense at all.

The 3 inch barrel version is a suprisingly accurate shooter.

I was/am very disappointed when Ruger changed over to the Hogues. I like the old grips a lot. I have a 3" GP and the compact grips it has on it ( old type) are maybe my single favorite shooting grips ever. I can live with Hogues on the 4" guns but I have no idea why they would put those large things on the 3" guns. It makes them impossible to conceal am I think that they look totally out of proportion.

The original grips tugged at my hand in recoil and tore holes. Yes, really. They were too tacky, I guess. I use Pachmayr Grippers now, and like them.

But I did briefly own a round butt (small grip) GP-100 wirh fixed sights, and that grip gave no problem and fit my hands exceptionally well.

My vote goes for the old-style, factory panel grips for a GP100.

I shoot higher scores in Bullseye competition with them than the Hogue grips with finger grooves.

But that is just me and the way I hold the gun.

I bought my GP-100 with the Hogue grips. I do not like how it fits my hand. I really want to get myself some of the original grips that they came with. I think I would be much happier.

non issue for me. both fit me well enough, though i will say that the old ones with the wood panels look alot nicer, imho.
