Even if discontinued there may still be some in the distributors warehouses.
All the gun shop would have to do is call around and find out.

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. Makes me feel a little more vindicated about looking for a gun I was sure was still in production. I did notice that every distributor I checked with online showed the 3" as being on backorder, so maybe getting one will prove to be a bit more work than I had first thought, but in can be done. Besides, I still keep flip-flopping back and forth between the 3" GP and the 3 1/16" SP101. I just love the way these Rugers feel! Now, I just have to decide between a larger, more comfortable gun to shoot, or a smaller, easier to conceal/throw in the glovebox gun. But I'll save that debate for another thread...

greetings -- i've been a long-time reader, lurking for the most part, but decided it was probably time i registered. as a whole, this is a great group here and has quickly become one of my favorite "gun sites". but i digress...

i thought i'd chime in here, since i had similar issues acquiring a 3" gp100. i hunted all around for months, after deciding that this had to be my next purchase (i all but fell in love with the kgpf-331 before i even held it in my hands), but i had a hard time finally closing the deal. most places i contacted locally had the 4" and tried to push it (but even the 4" was rare, by most standards) and i only encountered the 3" at one place which is somewhat local to me, but also has an online store.

let me first state that i am in no way affiliated with them, and i only mention it here because i know how hard the kgpf-331 can be to find, but according to their webpage they have at least one in stock (or rather, available to them via their distributors). i'm sure lots of people have heard of, or dealth with, ableammo.com (located in huntsville, tx -- but exists primarily online)... well, like i said they seem to have it available right now. it's not the cheapest currently, but you'll find that ruger raised prices by something like 8% across-the-board 2-3 weeks ago so the prices you saw back then are not going to be around now (i was told this by 3-4 gun shops when looking into special ordering). it used to go for in the neighborhood of ~$460 but is now just over $500.

i just picked up my order from them in person last week, but because of the rain and heat lately, i still haven't been to the range to actually shoot my new gp100 (the temptation is killing me!)... even out of the box it's a beautiful gun and feels almost perfect in the hand. it's probably a bit on the heavy side for concealed carry, but it'd definitely be possible for larger guys.

if you continue looking around, good luck and i hope you find a great deal -- regardless where you get it the kgpf-331 is a steal and i think will be a gun you'll have and enjoy for a lifetime.

I saw about 4 or 5 brand new ones at the gun show in Birmingham, Alabama this past weekend.

They are definitely still around, just may need to order one.
