GP100 market value?

Found a used GP100 at a local gun show Seller want's $600+ tax for it.
it's a 3", with adjustable sights, used, but seems to be in good condition, I couldn't find any nasty marks or issues with the rifling or the chambers. Looks to be well cared for. Front sight has been replaced with a fiber optic one from brownells and the springs have been replaced, also with a kit from brownells. Seller has the receipts for the replacements, and the original parts as well.

He's firm on $600 and I'm wondering if that's competitive market price.

Sounds kinda high for a used one, even with the mods.

Personally I'd look for a NIB one for that kinda money.

I'm not thrilled with the idea of someone modding a gun then turning around and selling it.

Just need the money, didn't like it, screwed it up, or is it a lemon???

3" GP's with adjustable sights are not the most common version...in fact, they are kind of rare.
I paid $500 for my 3" fixed sight GP...and I love it.

Other than the Clapp, the only GP100 3" adjustable sight model I am aware of was a Davidson's exclusive...

KGPF-831/1751 in .38SPCL only (I think)

That does not mean there were not others, just that these are the only two I am aware of...

A spring kit is something like 10 bucks and a fibre optic is less than $30 shipped from amazon.

Dont know about 3 inch models but do know my LGS sells the 4 inch for $560 brand new. Thats Stainless too. And in stock.

Maybe the 3 inch is more desirable to some.

after looking at the ruger site, I may have been wrong about it being a 3" I think it may have been a 4". the 3" ones ones look a little shorter than the one I handled.

looks exactly like this one, but with a fiber optic front sight.

Well then it is def too high for used. At least in my neck of the woods.

Like i said, LGS is selling new for way under 600 and amazon has fiber optic for under $30. Takes less than 60 seconds to install.

You can buy a stainless GP100 new around here for a little more than that. If you want a blued one, it's less. I'd pass.

Sounds like several of you are in agreement with my thoughts. I felt it was a bit high as well. If he would have taken $550, I think I would have walked away with it in hand.

Who knows, the buy's fairly local, and I have his card. I suggested $550 at the table, which he declined, so I'll call him from time to time with it.

I've really taken to liking wheel guns, and smith 19's and 586/686's style in particular. So we'll see if he folds before I find another Smith.

My 19-3 is by far my favorite, but I love to use my 6" GP100 for testing loads and bowling pin shoots.

Anyone out there know of any 3"-6" Smiths with adjustable sights chambered in .357 for sale out there? lol.

Its not at all hard to buy a new GP100 for less than that, although the 3-inch guns do seem to be harder to find. The adjustable sights sound like either an aftermarket mod, or perhaps some sort of distributor special or limited run. Unless it is a documented LE model, I would not pay more than $550 for it but of course YMMV.

EDIT: Opps! I see you've already come to the same conclusion. Good luck on your search for a new wheel gun!

No way. Buds has them for $548 brand new and it ships free.
Those small mods that you mentioned would not increase the value at all for me. Personally I would put the original sight back on anyway. It's not like he had a trigger job from a well known smith or something.

IMO the seller is charging you full price for the gun and for the additional parts. It seems you can buy the gun new and make the modifications yourself for the same price. (but you have a new gun)

LGS is in the $525.00 area for NIB. I picked up a blue ANIB GP100 for $375.00 in August. I know that doesn't help you, I just wanted to brag a bit

I bought a GP100 here in Missouri, with a six inch barrel, blued, and with adjustable sights, brand new out the door for 535 after taxes. This was just last summer.

GP 100 Value

The owner of the GP 100 sounds like the kind of person that thinks everything he owns is worth more than anybody else`s stuff. I go buy elsewhere myself, I will not deal with people who think along those lines. Maybe he thinks he should get 100% of what he has invested in the pistol including the spring kits etc. In my opinion unless he drops the price to something realistic, he could hang on to that pistol until it rots!! Something else you may check is to run the serial number to see how old it is, Ruger`s website is great for finding out what year the pistol, rifle is made. They have excellent records on when a certain model pistol or rifle was made. Just a thought.

Just found a used GP-100 3 inch fixed sighted stainless for $499.

No I don't need another one but $500 bucks would be tops for me.

but Guns America has a 3 inch Adjustable Sighted stainless Security Six for $450.

Now that would be tempting!

In my neck of the woods, $600 firm for a gp100 4" is a seller who is determined not to sell it.

My LGS had a beautiful mint one the other day with the inlay grip and hoque for $499. I was tempted but don't need another revolver right now.

Here in Pa, my local gun shop has it for579.00. And he generally runs a bit high.
