Like an idiot I sold my .357 Blackhawk. I won't bore you with the details, but what's done is done.
Anyway, nothing I've found shoots to point of aim so well out of the box and handles recoil perfectly. I could shoot box after box of full-power 158 grain loads without hand-numbing hand-hurting recoil, and consequently never developed a flinch.
Anyway, I like the feel of the GP100, and I assume a double action would be better for self defense.
How does the GP100 handle recoil compared to the Blackhawk, and is it as accurate?
Thanks for your replies,

David

That's a very subjective question. You would be better off trying to rent or find someone with a GP100 to let you shoot it. Recoil is not an issue for me with the GP100. Yes, it's accurate (at least mine is).

Buddy you dont even want to get me started! The GP handles recoil extremely well. I can shoot 158's at 1234 all day. It handles recoil almost magically.

Now that is what I wanted to hear! BTW, magically is how I'd describe the Blackhawk's recoil control. I couldn't figure out what all the .357 recoil fuss was about until I shot someone's S&W...

Recoil is subjective.

To me, the GP 100 recoil is much more pleasant than the Blackhawk recoil. My 6.5" Blackhawk is a little uncomfortable with heavy loads, my GP 100s soak recoil up extremely well to the point of feeling super mild. To me, its the grip shape, the plow-handle doesn't feel right....but the GP does.

Got "some" of each. Here's my take FWIW:

Across the board(with the exeption of the 3" fixed sight model) my gp100's handle recoil better than the blackhawks. Niether is bad to begin with though.

Due to the speed of reloading the gp and it's double action capability it gets a healthy reccomendation over the blackhawk for defense work.

The GP 100 handles recoil very well and does so because Ruger put excellent grips on the gun. If you fired a S&W with wooden service grips you got wacked real bad, Smiths need replacement synthetic grips to handle recoil.

My 357 BH handles nuch better in a SBH configuration:
