Howdy folks!

I graduated tonight as a doctor of pharmacy! It has been a long road. I decided to build myself a good AR for home/personal defense and range use, as a present to myself. Well luckily, my Spikes upper arrived today! I also had a slew of stuff that arrived last week.

There are a few components I need to change. I've got a commercial buffer tube (helluva time to find out, after I received my milspec Magpul MOE stock) so I'll have to get a new milspec one. I also need a magpul MOE trigger guard. The gap on this standard one kills me! After that, the only thing I will change is the handguards to midlength magpul MOE handguards once they come out. After I get some training, I may eventually get the BCM Gunfighter CH.

Now I just need to get a few rifle classes under my belt and a few thousand rounds of practice! This thing needs to get dirty.

Specs/etc:
- Spikes midlength LE upper
- Spikes BCG and CH
- Double Star lower and LPK
- Magpul ASAP sling mount/plate
- Magpul MOE grip (I really like this grip! Especially vs the original)
- BoBro Aimpoint mount (very nice)
- Aimpoint ML2 (got a killer deal on it)
- Magpul rear BUIS
- Viking Tactical mount with Surefire G2 LED
- Magpul MS2 sling

I didn't get pics of the bolt/BC but I will later. The staking on the BC looks good, I'm no expert of course.

Congrats on graduation and the rifle! Looks awesome all dressed up like that!

happy shooting

Thanks guys! I also just learned that I was gifted a membership to the massive indoor range being built in town by Bud's, so I'll get as much range time as I can mange!

Nice AR! But, regarding the Magpul Trigger guard you mentioned, my Magpul trigger guard was a piece of junk. I am going to try a Wilson. More specifically, the screw was a too-soft piece of junk. The hex wrench rounded-off its hole with very little torque applied to the wrench.

To be clear, yes, I am a stickler for using properly-sized tools, and going slow and easy when installing.

Congrats on the graduation.

What brand 1911 is that? It looks well used, the rifle needs to look that way as well. :)

Thanks very much guys! I appreciate the kind words.

Rexter: Thanks for the heads up! Was yours the polymer model or the aluminum? My shop is hopefully getting some in so I can peek before buying.

Yup, it's seen a lot of use! Good pistol. It's a Springfield loaded with night sights, and some skateboard tape on the front strap. I haven't shot it as much lately due to ammo costs, but I expect that to change next month (frequency, not costs). I also intend to get the AR as dirty and well-used as humanly possible!

Fellow Graduate! Wow, this is a coincidence. I graduated from UGA Pharmacy school May 1st. And ironically I got myself an AR15 as well for a present.

You're ahead of me though. I haven't secured an optic yet.

Congrats, Doctor! ;)

What breed of AR and 1911 are you sportin, Nugilum? I like the Magpul CTR stock, I have one on one of my ARs.

The AR is a Frankenstein:
DPMS Lower and LPK (my first lower assembled by me actually).
Bravo Company 16" lightweight middie upper.
H-Buffer
Daniel Defense (DD) bolt carrier group and charging handle.
DD Rear Receiver QD Swivel Attachment Point.
DD Omega 9.0 Rail.
MA Tech Rear Back Up Sights.
Magpul MOE butt stock.
Hogue Pistol Grip.
Everything has been properly staked and upgraded. Just waitin' for the range time.

The 1911 is one of Springfield Armory's first 1911 WWII GI model. I got an incredible on it deal back in 2003. I've added a beaver tail and a commander hammer. It's worked very well for me. Zero failures! (Well, I did work in a gun shop and had access to good magazines)

The knives are a Buck NightHawk and a M7 bayonet. My sig line answer the question concerning the bayonet. ;)

That's funny, Nugilum! And many congrats to you! I dig your new rifle setup too. Seems like we were on the same page too, I was about a mouse click away from purchasing a BCM 16" lightweight middy, until I found the Spikes.

Hope it shoots well for you! And best of luck in whatever area you're hoping to work in after school.

Sorry to bump an older thread, but does anyone know what kind of rail is on the OP's rifle? You can see it a bit in the 3rd picture... Do those mount under the handguards?

Congrats, I got myself an end of the semester present as well. A BCM middy upper, and furniture similar to yours. As soon as i head back up to Boise I'm picking up a lower to finish my build. Once its complete I'll post pics and a range report.

I still got a long way to go and have no idea for a major yet, but I got all the general stuff done so I better make up my mind fast.
