I've owned and shot the Berettas (sold both) and handled the Sig 320 in the LGS. The Sig seems just as blocky to me.

I agree, blockiness is similar however the p320 is lighter in weight, smaller grip circumference, and has shorter trigger reach. The p320 will definitely fit more hands than the beretta, especially with the grip options. I'm not sure the army really cares about the thickness of a sidearm, we civilians mostly value that aspect for ccw. I liked my 92fs and sometimes regret selling it, but sold it for the reasons mentioned above

From the article: "The $580 million dollar figure does not just include those guns, however, but also spares, accessories, and even holsters, all to be procured from SIG Sauer."

Realistically all that stuff has come down in price too. Most of the en-vogue holsters right now are kydex or polymer (and though they aren't as "pretty" from a utilitarian view I prefer those over leather). Particularly with a polymer holster if it's worth tooling up to invest in a mold, I doubt the finished product costs more than $1 to make.

It's easy to cut a deal when you've got guaranteed sales of a couple hundred thousand of your product.

Not to mention the advertising factor. As long as they're in the black at all on the deal it's probably worth it just for the bump they'll get in civilian sales.
