Here is a copy of the email I sent to Kahr customer service:

Dear Kahr,

I purchased my Kahr T9 on July 3, 2006. Shortly after purchase I noticed a slight flaw in the crown of the barrel. At the time I didn't think it would affect the safety of the pistol although I did wonder about accuracy. However, at the time, I only had this one gun and didn't want to send it in for you to check out.

Recently I bought another handgun that can act as my backup while the Kahr is being repaired and that is why I am now writing to you.

I must say that I didn't realize how bad the chip / crack was until today when I put the barrel on my scanner and then blew up the picture. I am now concerned about safety and accuracy.

They emailed this simple response the next day:

You definitely need a new barrel. Please send in the old one with a note describing the defect and that you need a replacement and we will turn it around in one day. When we get a closer look at the barrel we can better determine if there is other issues. At this point however, I think a barrel will solve your problems. Please send to the address listed in your owners manual and we will get this turned around quickly for you.

I had the new barrel in three days:D

BTW: I couldn't get a good digital picture of the defect using my camera. Placing the barrel on the scanner and leaving the scanner open produced the attached pic.

I had a similar experience with Kahr. I noticed some unusual wear in my MK9 Elite 98's barrel, and I sent it back to them. They replaced the barrel, installed night sights for free (I bought the sights from them and was supposed to pay $25 for installation), and gave my pistol's exterior an overall polish job. Had my gun back in a matter of days.

That's A+ service in my book. :)

Nice to hear of your positive expeience. All to often we hear only of bad experiences.

GVMan,

This is good news as I've just purchased a K9, my first Kahr, and am thinking about adding a T9 to the collection. How do you like the gun in general, comments from you and any other T9 owners on accuracy, trigger, reliability, etc. are appreciated to help me decide.

Thats great. You'll get to know them very well...

Don't buy that for a minute.

My first, a PM9, suffered from barrel peening. It was within the s/n range specified. I sent in the "top half"--complete slide with barrel and recoil spring.

Kahr replaced all of the above, I had it back in about a week, and it's worked perfectly since then (a bit over a year).

I carry it nine months a year. The other three months? I carry it's big brother, Kahr P45. :)

The T9

USP9

The T9 has been great. I did have the two typical issues during the 200 round break in period. The first was the slide not going all the way into battery. It also had a problem during that period of jamming when sling shotting the slide to chamber the first round. The solution to that was to use the slide release instead. However, now it loads the first round every time either way.

The only FTF's I have seen since the break in period have been when a new shooter was trying it and I assume they limp wristed a bit.

It is more accurate than I can be. How accurate? I don't know, I'd like to see what it can do in the hands of a real marksman.

My wife likes that it has a slim grip. I have large hands and it feels quite acceptable to me also.

The only drawback I have found is in finding accessories. Kahr hasn't produced enough of them for there to be a lot of third party companies producing items like Mags, Laser grips, holsters, etc. Galco does make a nice OWB. And I sent a trace of the T9 to Robert Mika who is currently making a custom IWB.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Well,
I hope the T9 is all that you say, as I am meeting a man to buy a used one tomorrow. I can't wait to get it in my hands and shoot.

I too had great service out of Kahr for my PM9. I don't know how it compares to Glock cust serv, since I've never had to use them.
