Here is a copy of the email I sent to Kahr customer service:
Dear Kahr,
I purchased my Kahr T9 on July 3, 2006. Shortly after purchase I noticed a slight flaw in the crown of the barrel. At the time I didn't think it would affect the safety of the pistol although I did wonder about accuracy. However, at the time, I only had this one gun and didn't want to send it in for you to check out.
Recently I bought another handgun that can act as my backup while the Kahr is being repaired and that is why I am now writing to you.
I must say that I didn't realize how bad the chip / crack was until today when I put the barrel on my scanner and then blew up the picture. I am now concerned about safety and accuracy.
They emailed this simple response the next day:
You definitely need a new barrel. Please send in the old one with a note describing the defect and that you need a replacement and we will turn it around in one day. When we get a closer look at the barrel we can better determine if there is other issues. At this point however, I think a barrel will solve your problems. Please send to the address listed in your owners manual and we will get this turned around quickly for you.
I had the new barrel in three days
BTW: I couldn't get a good digital picture of the defect using my camera. Placing the barrel on the scanner and leaving the scanner open produced the attached pic.
