You can make a forge out of many things.

Heck, we've used old hair-blowers as is for forge blowers.

I feel like the luckiest girl at the prom lately, I mentioned to my dad that I was starting working on knives and puzzling on doing blacksmithing to make a little cash and he offered to give me the complete blacksmith tool set he had collected many years ago. 100lb Vulcan bi-metal anvil, forge, hand crank blower, sundry tools and such.

On cheap forges I saw a neat plan to make a forge out of a light truck brake drum.

I still cuss the Forest Service crew that stopped me from packing out a complete blacksmith's set-up, which I had found in an abandoned mining claim. They gave me a long lecture about how lucky I was that they didn't run me in for theft of all those valuable antiquities...

Then they threw the whole set-up in the Rogue River.

BTW, they burned out the claim a few months later. The fire got away fom them, burned a bunch of land, and several fire-fighters were trapped and killed.

Forest Service logic. Sheesh.
