I am looking for a very concealable pocket gun. My local dealer has a used Grendel I think in .380 for $129 and a new keltec 380 for $199. I have heard lots about how if a keltec is not functioning that they will make it right, or users usually figure out how to polish what needs polishing. But I know nothing about Grendel, or if they are even in business. What would be your choice?

many thanks

I believe that Grendel was the company that preceded Kel_Tec. I don't know if you can get parts or service from Kel-Tec though. I owned a Grendel .380 with a box magazine that was reliable and surprisingly accurate, although a little large for pocket carry. I wouldn't pay $129 for one.

I also own a Kel-Tec .380 and after four trips back to the factory, it seems to be quite reliable. $199 is a pretty good price.

I repaired a Grendel once for a friend. Avoid them like the plague. It was the only pistol I ever handled that used a clock spring. That, of course, was the part that broke. Replacement parts are non-existant, so I had to fabricate a new one. Installing it w/o whatever jigs and specialized tools the factory might have had was three day nightmare. DO NOT BUY THE GRENDEL!!!!

If you can pick up a NIB Kel-Tec P3AT for $199 do it and do it now.

I have been looking around Mid MO for one and the best I have been able to do is $250 and that doesn't include the tax.

Some of the shops have told me that when they can get them in they are already sold for $280 &^^^.

I reckon I will probably wait awhile until supply catches and maybe even passes the demand. $300 is almost full factory suggested retail.

The first Grendel model was the P-10 (it does not have a removable magazine), and it had problems. I would not buy a P-10. The second Grendel model (it has a removable magazine), the improved version, was the P-12. I carried a Grendel P-12, loaded with Winchester Silvertips, for 9-10 years. Mine was 100% reliable in my hands. It is a light pistol and if you fire it with a limp wrist (read loose grip) it will malfunction. Also, do not dry fire this pistol. Grendel is not in business. Parts will be hard to find. Kel Tec does not work on Grendels, and I do not know who does.

I personally do not like Kel Tecs, but... They have a lifetime warranty. If one doesn't work out of the box they will work on it until it does. For this reason I say buy the P-3AT.

I had a Grendel in the late `80's. In 200 rounds, I never managed to get through a clip without a jam. I returned it to the dealer, got a refund, and learned that every Grendel he sold had been returned to the factory for repairs.

Since Grendell was the fore runner of Kel-Tec, I will not buy one,

John
