Grip question on Sig 228

Got my first Sig last week (a 228, Ala Dan would be proud)!
While putting a few boxes through it, I noticed that the grips loosen to a small extent. Not so much that it is a bother when shooting, but afterwards I can look at the back of the grips (the part where the two sides met and form a seam) and I can see that they open a small amount and reveal the spring underneath them.
After noticing this, I tightened the grip screws and the same thing happened again after another box.

So, is this normal?

BTW, the grips are the normal stock Sig grips (the newest one, black with Sig Sauer on one side, model number on the other side).

Any help, advice, etc. would be appreciated.....

Do the grips have the lock washers and big headed screws like my P232? Maybe your just not tightening them enough? If there are no lockwashers, then use some locktite.

Common with SIGs, less so w/the Hogue rubber grip panels. You might try some of the aftrmarket screws w/the hex head recess. Do not Locktite (red) them! I'd try nail polish 1st.

I have a P228, and I had the same problem when one of the original slotted grip screws actually came loose and fell out while I was shooting. I replaced the original slotted grip screws with the hex-head screws that Hogue sells for the P228, and I haven't had a problem since.

FWIW, my P228 has the same type grips and they haven't been a problem?

My Sig just has the big head screws (I guess), no washers.
My Beretta has a tendency to make the magazine stick if I tighten the screws too much, so I was going easy with the Sig.
Has tightening the grip screws ever caused a problem on Sigs, or is it okay to tighten them as much as possible?

If tightening Beretta screws make mag. stick then screws are too long and contacting mag.. As far as Sig goes, I'd use hex screws with nailpolish, and don't torque down too tight.

My 228 had the same problem. If you squeezed on the grips you could feel them move closer together slightly. The screws wouldn't tighten any more either. I think it's a common 'feature' on the 228.

I had that same problem with my sig. I got a set of hex screw from TJ custom and that solved the problem

sounds like Hex screws are the way to go.
Has this helped with just the Sigs, or do you guys use them on almost all of your grips.

If tightening the grip screws of your Beretta makes the magazine stick, then make sure you still have the lock washers in place. If you lost one of the lock washers, they are #6 star (outside) type lock washers that you can get at any hardware store.

I should have specified that I meant purple locktite. Purple is good for small screws that you may need to remove later. I have never had a problem with it. NEVER use RED locktite, unless you plan to use a torch to burn the locktite away before you can remove the threaded part. Red is nearly permanent.

That helps my Beretta very much, I did lose the washer and have not been able to find a replacement (have not worked very hard on the search either). Now that I know what I need, I will pick one up and see if that resolves the issue. Wow, one thread, two handguns back to perfect order (I hope).
