I know this isn't the newest model handgun, but I feel a need to give it a review, as few people seem to understand what a great handgun this is. I've gotten several confused looks from veteran shooters who've never heard of this model. At $400, this is the greatest value in handguns IMO. I picked one up a few weeks ago, chambered in 9mm. I can't believe they sell these for half the price of a normal SIG. Here's the breakdown:

Ergonomics: Feels great in my hand. The gun comes with a small grip attached and a medium grip in the case. Large grips are also available. Grips are a $%^&* to remove, but I eventually got it down to a science and attached the medium grip. Feels excellent, very fit and snug. I have "average" sized hands. Women and people with smaller hands may find it chunky, but the small grips and textured surface will easily fix this.

Aesthetics: It's a SIG...c'mon. Polymer frame and steel slide. Classic SIG black and rail compliment this beautiful model. Nothing short of a mean-looking combat pistol.

Accuracy: Wow. Just wow. Out of the box and not cleaned, I was tearing the X ring apart at 7-10 yards. My model does not have night sights, but the sights are very visible. This gun is a better shooter than I am.

Recoil: Ha! My Bersa .380 recoils harder. The steel slide and overall weight make this feel like a hard-hitting pop gun.

Concealability: Not the best choice. Gun is too heavy and thick for comfortable concealed carry. This is a combat pistol, not a BUG.

Accessories: Grips, mags, and spare parts, the usual. Just as expensive as any other brand. Only option I would consider would be a tactical light and plenty of spare mags. This gun has all I need otherwise.

In closing, I would recommend this as a must have for any shooter, new or pro. It's priced extremely well and built like a tank. No issues of any kind after ~300+ rounds. My buddy also carries one. He carried his on the police force and at his range. 200,000+ rounds through his and not a single complaint! If you want a plinker as well as a serious home defense gun, this is it. The French police and military use them, along with the U.S. Army and countless law enforcement agencies, including the DEA. I don't understand why they're not the hot topic on forums, but this SIG deserves its place at the top for me.

The target you see attached was 10 rounds at 10 yards. The first shot was the single hole at the bottom. The next 9 shots comprise the two jagged holes.

Nice shooting!

Yeah the SP2022 is a fabulous pistol regardless of price. It is my favorite DA/SA poly pistol out there.

Shooters have heard a lot more about them in the last couple of years with almost all reports by users being very positive. Mine almost always goes with me to the range along with one of my P226s.

The SP2022 is well known to have a great out of the box trigger, extremely accurate, reliable, and durable. The biggest complaint about the SP2022 had been its beefy grip but the newer small grip has been postively received.

I agree that the SP 2022 is probably the best priced full-size gun on the market today. Satisfaction seems to be close to 100%.

I'm new to SIG, so I have to ask: why exactly is it so much cheaper than their usual products? Because I see the same exact quality.

It costs a lot less to manufacture a poly frame then it does a metal frame to start.

It may also be in addition to lower unit cost that SIG is selling the SP2022 at a lower margin than it's mainstay P series line to have a competively priced pistol that entice buyers that would not normally look to purchase a SIG and take business from other pistol manufacturers. It also seems that many thay buy a SP2022 end up buying other SIGs.

In any case it is a great thing that they are priced what they are.

The original SigPro (2009) was designed to meet the demand for a polymer framed handgun. It wasn't very popular as it was about the same size as the 229 and many folks looking at compact Sigs aren't price shopping (it wasn't as inexpensive when they first came out).

The design of the SigPro has remained static over time and has not aquired any additional development cost. The initial R&D cost were covered in a large French LE contract. So the SigPro 2022 is a low cost production item...which has turned into their price leader and one of the hidden secret values in the Sig lineup

It's less expensive because of the plastic frame and the fact they only ship it with one magazine. I think the quality seems excellent on mine and the trigger is sweet, firm but smooth and breaks sharp and clean.

I disagree on one point of your review. It's more concealable than you think. I carry mine with a good IWB holster and gun belt, and can successfully hide it in cargo shorts and a t-shirt.

It's a great pistol, easy and fast to shoot accurately.

Mine is the night stand next to the bed. Light and laser on the rail and 4 full mags. Mine shoots great, better than me and I feel completely confident in its reliability to save my and family lives. Great gun for the price. Picked mine up on Gunbroker for $325, but after shipping and transfer, close to the $400 most shops are charging.

Good point on the concealability issue. I'm used to a Bersa when it comes to concealment so a full size SIG may take some getting used to. I'm gonna shop around and experiment with different belts, holsters etc and see what happens. I hope it works out, I would love to carry this concealed. I've always had a little bit more trouble concealing guns because I'm 5'7'', 135 lbs
