I have a brand new, 35 year old S&W 27-2. :) It did not come with the factory woods grips. Instead it has Pachmayr "Gripper" grips and I hate them. I am looking for two pair of grips for her and I need your help.

First, I am looking to find the factory original wood grips. I do not like them on the firearm when I am shooting as they are not especially comfortable to me. But I want them to preserve the original classic look. Where can I find these?

Second, I do intend to shoot it. I much prefer Hogue grips on my shooters. Which Hogue grips fit on the S&W 27-2? Do they have one that does not leave the back-strap open?

If you can provide links to any sites I would be most appreciative.

Heavy,

I agree with you on the grips! You might try S&W for factory grips, but might be higher than a cat's back!

Yes, Hogue has some fantastic grips. I got a pair, Mono-Grip" for my 629, they cover the back strap totally. Go onto : grip.com, this is Hogue's web. I believe the grips I got were , IIRC, $55.00? The grips come with a device that fits over the bottom of the grip frame, then uses a screw thru the bottom of the grip, totally out of the way, and the look is superb!! They have them is several colors, with/wo checkering. Give them a look, they're nice, friendly folks to deal with also! Good Luck!

The Hogue Tamer grips off of a S&W X frame (which cover the back strap) will fit on your N Frame, assuming your N Frame is a round butt (Hogue may make a square butt tamer, but I don't know for sure).

Here are a pair of Ahrends Retro Target N frame walnut grips that I customized to fit my hand. Ahrends has a quality product at a VERY affordable price.

The Ahrends Retro Targets are much more comfortable than either the fat factory target stocks or Hogue's. Better still would be Herrett's Roper stocks, fitted to your hand. If you want factory grips that may actually be comfortable for shooting, look for some older Coke bottles.

I found a set of the original factory "Goncalo Alves" grips for my Model 29 on eBay for around $30. I've seen them there for a lot more than that, too, but sometimes you can get lucky. Because of eBay's anti-gun policies, there aren't as many buyers and sellers of gun parts there nowadays.

First, I am looking to find the factory original wood grips.

Try Gun Broker, E-bay, or the for sale section of the Smith and Wesson forum. If you want genuine "magnas" be ready to pay for them. Eagle Grips offers a decent set of retro Magna style grips. There are also several custom stock makers who will make you a set of Magnas, again be ready to PAY for them.

A 35yr old 27-2 is almost certainly gonna be a square butt. Which is moot, because the grips are available for both, as the link shows.
