I just bought a 1976 Ruger Security Six (Liberty Edition) meant to be a SD/HD/Fun gun for my girlfriend. She loves the gun, but the stocks are too wide for her tiny hands.

It looks like it has what I assume to be factory target grips installed, since the wood extends far below the bottom of the grip frame and in front of it as well.

I was wondering what options I would have in terms of replacing the grips with something smaller. My mother has the Pachmayr grips installed on her Security Six, and they seem to be a good deal smaller than the ones on my girlfriend's gun, but I would like to find something even smaller than that.

Does anyone have an idea as to what I could get that is smaller than the current grips, and where to find them?

Thanks!

If your girl friend won't be shooting .357 Magnum ammo-then, following is a link to an ebay auction for some much smaller(151 and up) factory original Ruger Security-Six service grips-which are commonly seen on ebay-albeit the price on these a somewhat higher than the norm for these in this auction! However, the pictures in this auction clearly shows the grips that you'll need to watch for!:

Don't know if they are still made...

The Pachmayr grips have (or had) a variation which do not (did not?) cover the back strap of the revolver, so the front to rear length is lessened. Handy for those of us with shorter fingers.

The smallest usable grip is the original service type grips and add a Tyler T-grip to fill in the space behind the trigger guard and provide some decent control.

Are you looking for the smaller factory grips like these?
If so, send me a PM. I have some that are new in the box.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

I've been talking to JRH for the past few days, and I'm going to be trading the target grips currently on the gun for a pair that he has that he refinished and modified for speed loaders.

Once the grips JRH has comes in the mail and I install them on the gun I'll let everyone know how it works out.

I'll still be looking at other options, however, since it would be nice to find something that will be comfortable with .357 loads while still being small enough for my girlfriend's hands.

I came across this lady a while back when I was looking for grips. I have a 'source' for exotic wood and was looking for people who could take raw wood and make whatever I wanted:

I noticed she seemed to be very centered and capable on making grips for women (since she is one).

(And she's hot)

I had actually looked at her site before, and considered ordering a set of grips from there. I wasn't sure, however, if she made grips for the Security Six series.

I'm thinking, considering the cost, it would make a good anniversary/ birthday/ Christmas gift if I could get a set made.

It doesn't matter to me if the person making the grips looks like a Lovecraftian horror, just as long as the grips themselves look pretty. :neener:
