Hi Guys. As I mentioned in another thread, I recently bought a 150 prefix Speed Six. Am I in big trouble finding grips?
The grips on it right now are Hogue monogrips which leave something to be desired in the fit department.
I'd like to get Pachmayr compacts, but called Pachmayr and was told they would not fit the 150 prefix gun. But in sending a message to a grip seller on gunbroker, he told me that unlike the Security Six, the Speed Six grip was not changed in the 150 to 151 prefix transition. But then again, he's a random seller on a gun auction site. Who knows how much he really knows and how much he just wants to sell product.

So what's the deal guys? Was there a change in the grip frame? If so, any ideas on where I could get grips? This is just going to be a carry gun, so I would rather not do something like order custom grips for $100+.
Do I have to buy 150 series Security six grips, and file off the square butt?

I could really use the assistance of some knowledgable guys here.

Called ruger. Straight from the horse's mouth- there was no grip change. 150 and 151 series are the same!!!

Ben, my best and only suggestion is to look for some custom grips. Patrick Grashorn makes wonderful stag grips that would look great on your speed six. Here is the link to his site http://www.grashornsgunworks.com/.

They are about twice the price of Hogue (sp) grips but they will last a lifetime, and look great the whole time.

I'm not sure who you talked to, but this looks like a pretty large difference, between the 150 and 151 series, to me (the labeling is wrong, but the pictures are correct)

Try Badger he still makes speed six grips but you'll have to call they're not listed on his website.

9mmepiphany is exactly right-as the grip frame on the 150 Speed-Six is not the same as the smaller grip frame on the 151 Speed-Six. I have several 150 and 151 Speed-Sixes and the grips definately do not interchange.

OK, so you guys are right.

After looking at the replies here, I called up Ruger CS again and got someone else. I explained my question and the previous answer, and asked for verification. The guy went and got their tech who works on the old revovlers. I think his name was Robbie or Rodney or something similar.

As you might have guessed, the grips do NOT interchange. There was indeed a change in the shape of the frame when they transitioned from 150 to 151. I had gotten bad info when I first called.

The tech I spoke with is going to try scour the warehouse to try to find me an old set of 150 series grips tomorrow. He felt really bad about me getting bad info. Even if they don't find any (and I'd be surprised if they do), I can say that Ruger's CS really does go above and beyond.

Do you think it might be possible to buy some 151 series rubber grips that would cover the backstrap, and dremel/cut them a little to fit the 150 series grip?

Just got the call from Ruger. They found some 150 series grips and are mailing to me (for free). Expect them here Monday/Tuesday. I'll keep you updated.

That's some crazy CS right there. I may have to set up a different thread with props to Ruger's CS.

I have read rubber grips can be modified on www.rugerforum.net Had a pair of grips i was trying to sell on Gunbroker, sold them, but still not sure what they will fit. The factory owners manual wanted the serial number of the gun when ordering grips.* I found this also
These grips will only fit Security-Six & Police Service-Six with square butt, with serial numbers (151-) and newer. They will not fit Speed-Six, or Security-Six & Police Service-Six with round butt, with serial numbers (150-) or older.
http://shopruger.com/RLG-Security-Six-Grips/productinfo/19935/ All very confusing.* :scrutiny:

Well, the bit from Ruger's website about those NOS grips isn't really confusing. They are meant for the Six series square butt frames (Security Six and Police/Service six) with 151 prefix and higher. That's all.

The website is just saying that they won't fit a square butt grip of 150 series, and that they don't fit any round butt grips (Speed Six).

Ruger is great. If you want to see others, just do GB sweeps from time to time, you'll find them.

They were apparently changed because Skeeter Skelton wrote an article complaining about ride-up on the original grip design.
