i have a new model blackhawk. and a friend of mine gave me a set of grips off of a 50th anniversary model, the black checkered grips. and i tryed putting them on mine but they wont fit. they look almost the same but they are just a little to short and the holes are a little off. do they make those same grips for my gun or could i buy a grip frame to make them fit?

Yep grips for the New Model Black Hawk are readily available from a variety of sources. Most of the major grip manufacturers make grips for the New Model. If you look in the classified section of this forum some turn up from time to time.

Do a google search for them.

They are on EBay regularly.

The New Model and the anniversary model have two different grip frames as you now know.

so will the 50th grip frame fit my gun? cause i have looked all over for those grips and cant find anything. (the black checkered with the ruger emblem) .

You could change grip frames but theres no gaurantee it'll be a perfect fit. You'd likely need some hand fitting which will then require some refinishing.

You should be able to get a set like those on the below pictured BH directly from Ruger. they're the standard grip on all blued BH's now.

The difference betwen these and the ones supplied with the 50th Ann model BH's are the color of the eagles on the medallions.
Regarding the size difference, yes they're two different sizes. It's not just a fluke. the 50th Ann models like the New vaquero models use a grip frame more in size to the older XR3 grip whereas the BH's use the Xr3-Red style.

Have you asked at the Ruger Forum? Till you do you haven't "looked all over".

Your grip frame should be the same as the grip frame of the Vaquero (not the New Vaquero but the original Vaquero) so that type of grip is readily available. Now if your gun is a Super Blackhawk with the squared off rear of the trigger guard you have a different frame altogether. But the standard frame on the Blackhawk is I believe, the same as the Vaquero. But folks over to the Ruger forum will know for sure. I'm speaking here without having looked it up.

A new grip frame will run you 50-100 bucks and as the style grips you want are available I see no need to spend the bucks.

The anniversary model IIRC had the black eagle and not the red. The Black eagle was the original color and was changed after Sturm died, so it appears on the anniversary model. Unless I got that backwards. Is the color of the eagle what you are after?

Unless a Ruger guy comes along best I can do.

Actually I think it was the other way around; that the eagle was originally red, and then changed to black after Alex Sturm died. Maybe after Bill Ruger died, they went back to the original red eagle, because I see it used a lot more these days on their promotional materials and catalogs. I might also be wrong about this too.

You're right it was originally red and went to black.
