My 442 has factory Uncle Mike’s boot grips. My model 36 has the factory Magnas or Service Panels with a BK grip adapter.
I have tried other grips on these two J frames, but ended up back with factory grips plus the BK adapter.
Now this photo shows my model 36 with a Hogue Monogrip next to the factory grip for a size comparison.
I installed the Monogrip to my gun. It looked odd but felt great in my hands. It wasn’t good for concealability.
I removed the Monogrip and reinstalled the factory grip with the BK adapter.
This is a photo of my model 63 with the factory grip. I thought I would like this grip, but I do not. It’s too narrow at the bottom.
I ended up putting the Monogrip on the 63 because it’s a gun I wear on my hip in the open. I don’t try to conceal it.
The Monogrip is better for my grip and helps my accuracy with this gun when plinking.
I tried some other grips for my .38 Spl carry J frames but ended up back with factory grips in the end. Unfortunately I don’t have photos of the other grips I tried, but they were cheaply knock-offs I found on eBay.
EDIT: It took me a few minutes but I found a shot of my old model 63 Pro. I loved the grips on this gun. I may try to get some from Altamont in the future. They call these “Altai” grips. For a long time all they had were smooth uncheckered grips. These were nice grips.
