I wanted to know if anyone has any experience with Grizzly machinery (Lathes, Mills, ect.) Can anyone tell me if they are quality tools and how they compare in price to others. Also what are common brands that you other gunsmiths use.

Thanks for the replies.

Top quality products with good company support. Smithy tools are also a possibility. Both feature"off shore" products built to their specs. It all boils down to how much you want to spend and how much use the items will see.

I have not shopped around too much but from what I can tell the Grizzly products dont seem to be unreasonably expensive.

One of the top benchrest shooters in the country builds benchrest rifllles with Grizzly grade lathes and milling machines.

I have 3 lathes.
The Grizzly mini lathe is a very poorly made machine for cutting with the apron, but it drills and reams on centers well, and now is used as a wire wheel motor.

The 1938 Atlas and 1967 Clausing are well made machines.

I have one of their mini-mills. I mostly use it for cutting sights, mounting scopes and jeweling. I haven't had it very long maybe a few months. It seems to be decent quality for the price. It will hold a .001" tolerance easy. As for the lathes I have heard several different opinions. If looking at a lathe I would instead buy a used one that I know would hold tolerances.

I noticed that the gunsmith at the Las Vegas Basspro shop uses Grizzly tools. I understand he does some pretty decent work, too.
