This was an interesting sort of development. Several months ago, the landowner cut a trail between feeders though thick brush. It has turned into something of a major quadrupedal thoroughfare. I usually visit the property once or twice a week for hog and/or predator control as part of his wildlife management plan. I come more when hogs are showing up and less when they aren't. Right now, they are.

During my last three visits, I have spotted hogs at about the same place on the trail, gotten my rifle up, and watched them come in the same way each time, all three resulting in very similar deaths, all within yards of one another.

Here is the video.

Unfortunately, two of the hogs were awfully stinky and did not get processed. The third hog was supposed to go to a local family, but their freezer died. So all of the hogs were given back to nature.

The "gimp" is a nice example of DRT. Forestburg, your not a long way from me.

Great video! I'm glad to see someone is seeing some hogs here in Texas. In my area they have all but disappeared the past 4 or 5 months. The only hogs I see on my trail cams are larger boars...one at a time...kinda like you had in the video. My area is still piled up with acorns everywhere and the hogs have no interest in feeders.

Stony, I don't get it either. My place and TBR (where the video was done) both have lots of acorns. TBR is getting hogs that are coming to corn sometimes. At my place, nothing in 2 months and the two properties are only about 12 miles apart and very similar in terms of vegetation, soil, and water access.

Shooting singles doesn't do much for the population, especially when they are loners, but it keeps me interested. ;)

Whatever the problem is around here, it has effected the deer too. All the big bucks have disappeared into the deep woods and none coming to feeders. I see a few nighttime does and fawns, and an occasional small rack buck....but everything in the middle of the night. If I get a pic of a boar, it's normally just passing through and not even stopping to eat corn.
I had lots of big bucks before the acorn drop, but they just disappeared along with the hogs.
I know it has to be just a phase, but I sure miss the action. I will just keep feeding corn and high protein and hope.

Stony, same for me this year re: deer.

Saw maybe 1/3 of what I saw last year, but it was more an absence of does. Also, last year I personally knew 3 people that hit deer on the road, 2 totaled their vehicle. I had 2 near misses myself. Not so this year.

It's got to be the weather.
