I have a GSG 1911 but i dont own a full size 1911. I got it because it was the most reliable .22 that feels like a really full sized gun. I am very please with how it cycles bulk ammo. I have never had a problem with it cycling in over 1000 rounds.

I have a m&p shield and want something similar to that which is why im looking at the ruger SR 22. But i dont want to switch if im going to have to buy the expensive .22 ammo for it to feed properly.

My question is how reliable is it with bulk federal ammo? Am i going to have to clear a jam every magazine?

One of the main selling points of the SR22 is its reliability. It's specifically noted for being able to preform with bulk ammo, not just the expensive stuff like MiniMags and such. Mine feeds Winchester, Federal and Blazer bulk without issue.

Whether or not it'd be a good trainer for the Shield, that I don't know. Have you held a SR22 and compared it to the M&P?

Well I can tell you first hand the GSG is not bad at all. It eats damn near anything and I freaking love mine. Best plinker I have to teach pistol safety and practice. The Ruger, I have not had the pleasure. I am very interrested to hear some owners takes on them too. Might need to expand my collection.

I really really like (wife loves) our gsg as well. We have had issues with the bulk ammo in it however. It did really good its first couple hundred rounds and the next fifty rounds it had 3 misfires and 5 or 6 fail to clear. I forgot my bulk ammo last time I went to the range because it was in the other vehicle and I bought some CCI Standard Velocity ammo and holy smokes did it shoot like a dream. I wanted the SR 22 but noone around here can get one
