Gsg m1911 .22

So I have had my Ruger MKIII 22/45RP with wood grips for about 3 years now. I've never been enamored with it. Gun functions great, but I like guns with slides and no unnecessary lawyer gadgets. Plus, I've never wanted to disassemble and clean it and put it back together. Anyways, I've been eyeballing the 1911 .22s and wanting one for a long time. Palmetto State Armory had a GSG 1911 .22 with wood grips on sale today for $230 and I grabbed it. I believe these are made by Sig which I love my C3 and P938. As you can see from what I own below, I like 1911's. Would like to hear from any owners of GSG 1911's and know your opinion of. Also, I'm going to list my Ruger for sale for $300 (about 500rds. through and looks pretty new still). Also, looking for opinions on what people think of the Ruger's vs. the 1911 .22s. Sound off please.

They are made by German Sport Guns and imported by ATI. They also supply SIG with the SIG branded version. I have one and have been quite pleased with it. I'd estimate I've got over 8K rounds through it and nary a problem. Well, that's not exactly true. Back somewhere between 1-2K rounds the bushing cracked and shot the recoil plug and spring downrange, but ATI replaced it with a new machined bushing and everything has been great since. I use mine as a suppressor host and sometimes to shoot steel matches, but usually just to plink with and as a trainer for my 1911 carry guns. It's not match accurate, but it's plenty accurate for most purposes. You can pick up +4 magazine followers and +1 metal basepads to give you 15 rounds and to make the basepads less susceptible to breaking if you drop them while training. I'd buy another again for sure.

You know it's pretty easy to remove the lawyer-gadgets from your Ruger, right? Just ditching the mag disconnect greatly improves the trigger feel and makes field stripping much easier.

I have the Sig 1911-22 and love it. It is very accurate and fun to shoot. I recently made a lot of mods to it for something different and to use with a suppressor. But factory new it is a great little pistol, I think mine was 450ish new so you got a deal. I can hit 1 liter bottles at 70yrds consistently. Never had a malfunction with it. I use Rem Golden Bullets and keep it clean. The Sig and GSG 1911-22 are very similar. Here is a pic of factory stock:

Fishbed - Yes I thought about doing but was concerned about ruining the value if decided to sell. Guess I just like the idea of training with a similar type pistol to what I carry.

I've had nothing but fun with mine. Over the course of ~1500 rounds it has gone bang every time. Only issue (and apparently a common one) is that I had to use the tallest front sight blade to get POA/POI to match.

The accuracy is good, and the ergo's are pure 1911.

Don't make the mistake I did and get the Chiappa 1911-22 thinking it was basically the same gun -- total, POS unless you need a trainer for clearing stovepipes. Sent it back to Chiappa on my dime (~$60 actually!) and if anything it came back worse, then they never answered my Emails.

I have a Kimber CSGM (5" from 1998) with a kimber made & marked 22 conversion slide. on this frame it shoots <1.5" at 25 yards. same as with its 45 slide -- it is one amazing gun!

I got the Sig C-3 and it is very accurate ( groups <2.5"/25 yards ) and when I put the Kimber conversion on it, function is excellent and groups are ~1" at 25 feet opening to <3" at 25 yards. excellent value at ~200$

NOTE -- on the C-3 some slide safety features do not operate

I've sold my MK's and M41 ( kept my Trailside ) thinking much as you are.
besides, how many 22's does one need? ( silly question...)

I do think a Kimber 22 conversion is in my future too. Good to hear they work on the C3 too.
