I hadn't been to many gunshows recently but went to one this past weekend and my son and I took a look at the little GSG-5 MP5 clones in 22 lr. neato looking gun but I have finally learned discipline not to buy guns on impulse :p (so I think). I kinda wanted one but decided to go home and do a little research.

i find out that these have had some probelms with screws and sights coming loose. Cracked bolts and even some barrel cracking due to hard extracter contact. (I had seen some ugly pictures of that on another forum but that is bookmarked on my home computer).

But I've also read that the company addressed these issue and there are later generations of the rifle that are fine.

So, is it true that many of the problems are fixed?

If so, how can one identify the latest production guns coming from Germany?

I'd like to lay down the cash for one of these but am very reluctant to buy a turkey.

Thanks in advance.

ive beaten the bejesus out of mine. several thousand rounds. the only 2 main problems i have found so far were the front sight post screw starts to loosen up and make the front sight wobble (easy fix), and the occasional stovepipe

many GSG owners SHOULD agree with me that she seems to prefer firing dirty rather than after a good cleaning. i can slap mag after mag through it and encounter less, if any, problems but after a good scrubbing and wipe down/lube job, ive found 1-2 stovepipes/FTF's in the first magazine. other than that, no mechanical failure or signs of previous problems as addressed by the forums you have studied.

also, i believe my rifle came in on the 2nd or 3rd wave of shipments into the country, so the malfunctions that had been addressed with previous GSG's may have been fixed at the factory before i got mine.

from what i understand, the company has been doing a very noteworthy job of fixing problems, and offers good customer service on repairs. i would recommend anyone buy this rifle (or the SBR sibling) due to the fact its fun as hell. it turns heads at the range, is quite accurate considering its modelled after a machine pistol/submachine gun, and its always so hard to say 'no' to reloading just ONE MORE magazine before you pack the rifle up and head away from the range. IMHO

Mine runs like a top, however I haven't had it very long, and I shoot my .22lr AR15 more. Probably less than 2k though the GSG5.

The biggest reason is that I've got eight mags for the AR, and only one for the GSG5.
