My LGS has had a GSG AK 47 .22lr on the used rack for awhile now.
I've handled their MP5 clone and like it well enough, but not enough to actually buy one. This AK22 is priced around $250.

I can't imagine why it has sat for so long, unless it is just a piece of junk. I have been wanting a silly tacticool .22 and was thinking about either the GSG MP5-22, or finding a used 10/22 and tricking it out.

Anyone have any first hand experience with the GSG AK22?

My step daughter wants an AR-22 (but chose the Mossberg tactical .22), so having it sitting next to an AK22 is appealing to me on some level.

Nothing? Okay, maybe one more question will stimulate some comments.

Does anyone know if standard AK furniture will fit? If I get it, I will want to replace the black plastic stock and hand guards with classic wood.

I have one of the Armscor Ak-22s but not a GSG. Mine has nothing in common with an actual AK other than appearance as none of the furniture is easily changed.

It is a $200 gun NIB and I enjoy shooting it.

That's more or less what I'm expecting with the GSG. Not a deal breaker, but kind of a bummer. Black plastic just isn't appealing on an AK.

I've heard good things about them from people in the past, but that was a few years ago. Supposedly they do a good job of mirroring the look and feel of the actual AK.

The Armscor is the only AK-22 I own.

I bought one of the Archangel kits for my older 10-22 to make it tacticool but I took it off because you can't adequately clean the rifle with it in place. It looks cool and now it looks cool in the back of my closet just lying there looking for a home while the 10-22 is back in the original stock.

I have one of the Mossburg 715t AR type rifles that is a lot of fun to shoot but is really just a lot of plastic and the 25 round mags are a cast iron pain to load. Kids like it and it does go bang every time but it feels really cheap.

I have a conversion for my AR that I use in a DPMS Sportical. $600 rifle and a $200 conversion kit. I really like it as it has all the same controls as the .223.

I have a S&W .22 AR and I recommend this one to everyone. It is more expensive but works well, is about as close as you can get to the "feel" of an AR, and the magazines are very easy to load. Take my word for it-it sure is nice to have the thumb button when loading multiple 25 round mags.
