Ok, with the squeeze on centerfire ammo, and with me having a pretty large stash of .22 that I don't feel the need to conserve for the zombie apocalypse, I want to go shooting some of the .22 to stay sharp.

I have an older GSG-5, the HK MP5 clone. I have the older, more correct-appearing version. My issue, the most recent time I tried shooting it, is it's effectively a single-shot gun. It doesn't seem to eject or cycle, I end up with a jam or misfeed.

I have 4 magazines, it does this with all of them.

Best I can tell (it's been a little while, so I'm operating off of memory), the issue seems to be weak ejection, possibly due to weak cycling. I tried taking it down and cleaning it, which let me tell you, isn't a fun project with this gun. It's really not that user-friendly to do so.

I seem to recall a thread elsewhere (calguns, maybe?) with people discussing it, and some folks were of a mind to remove one of the two recoil springs. I don't want to do that. I've had this gun awhile, and it used to run just fine, with any ol' cheap 22 ammo. Not sure what I can do to revive it, but I'd like to, it would be fun to shoot again. Thanks for input.

I had a GSG 1911 and it ran fine....after my gunsmith disassembled and thoroughly cleaned and polished the innards. the fact that it used to cycle "just fine" suggests a problem. They are fun when they work, eh?

In looking into it more on other threads, the recoil spring seems to be an issue. Posted on several different forums (all around 2010 or so...), there are 2 recoil springs, either of which is snappier than the single Ruger 10-22 spring. The jam seems to come from the bolt closing back too quickly, unless you're using HV ammo.
Several people suggesting running it with just one spring in place, slows the cycle down, gives time to eject and clear the chamber and feed the next rd.

It's just such a bear to take apart.
