I have been planning on getting another gun sometime this year (I only buy about two a year because of my budget), and I just threw down for a new pistol a month or so ago.

My New Year's resolution (one of three) was to buy an AK clone before the general election in November. Then, I thought, "Well, I could buy an SKS and 1000 rounds of ammo for the same price as a decent AK." And so started looking at those.

Then they up and introduced the GSG-5 (the MP5 in .22LR), and I sorta want one of those. Cool-factor and ammo cost, obviously, are the two big draws for this one. The other two possibilities are to fill the slot of a "battle rifle," which I currently don't have.

Any thoughts on this? Since I'm trying to narrow down on a choice, I'd rather not get recommendations of other things to consider, but if someone has advice about a particular variety/supplier/etc., please share.

If it helps anyone help me make a decision, here's what I've got now:
Ruger Mk. III 22/45
Ruger 10/22
Marlin 925 in .22Mag
Marlin 336 in .30-30
H&R Handi-rifle with 20 gauge shotgun barrels and a .30-30 as well
S&W Sigma in .40

Thanks,
Josh

can't go wrong with an AK. its a possibility that we won't be able to buy one in a year or so. it can work as an investment in that case too. the GSG5 is cool but with a 10/22 all you're really adding is a pistol grip. an AR might be a good choice too. those are always on the chopping block for dems. make sure you get one with lots of evil features and lots of mags.

i think if it were me, i'd go with the AK. they're a great "bang" for the buck gun, so to speak.

p.s. its "piqued" your interest, not peaked.

I'd think you couldn't go wrong with either an AK or an AR.The AK offers a number of different configurations, relatively cheap accessories, and still affordable ammo. The AR has any number of different ways to go with it, from box stock, to M4 shorty, to flattop heavy barrel, along with several different caliber choices. The AK is known for its reliability and functionality, while the AR has the option of a great deal of versatility on a single platform.

I'd go with an AK or AR. Since the AK was a New Year's resolution you can knock it out and it'd double up as a battle rifle. A GSG5 would be kind of pointless since you already have the 10/22.
