AIM Surplus has battle packs for about 18 cents a round or cases for about 17. Anyone have any experience with this stuff? They say it's high-quality, but then again, they're selling it.

I've got a good amount of it and a quick search in the Rifle Forum will review more on it. I bought the initial order which had ammo with tarnished/corroded brass; but that fired OK.
AIM decided to deal with that by cutting open the sealed battlepacks and checking future shipments of ammo. The downside is no sealed battlepacks (which the plastic was old and fairly brittle anyway...many were already compromised and the ones that weren't likely would have been eventually). The upside is the latest batches are nice brass and decent ammo for the price.
So far the relatively small amount I have shot (even the corroded stuff) is comparable to M193 in velocity and accuracy.

Thanks, BR. I did a search using "guatemalan 223" before posting and got nothing. Just now tried "guatemalan" and ... when you're right, you're right.
I got together with some friends and bought some. If you buy in cases, only 1 of the 4 battlepacks is open.
I chrono'ed two different lots and here are the results. They were 20 shot strings out of an AR-180B (18" barrel). Temp was 65, chronograph at 10 ft. For comparison, I also fired some Olympic 55gr that's "blasting ammo".

I didn't have any commercial to compare, but it's really quite consistent for surplus, especially the 3-92 batch. Accuracy was good (didn't shoot on paper yet), but nothing special from casual observation. My opinion is that it'd be excellent training ammo.

Have a battlepack right now, me and a friend shot up another pack last weekend, no complaints. Easily worth its price and the packs I've bought one at a time weren't opened by AIM and had minimal corrosion. (I think the date on the pack was '81)

I haven't shot any of it. However, have not heard any bad things about it.
If I were in the market for 5.56 now and it was priced fair I would buy it myself and not worry.
