Good morning forum,

I am looking to make my first gun belt purchase and am looking for some advice before I pull the trigger. I have shopped several of the custom gun leather maker's websites and am a little confused on how to measure for the appropriate size. If I understand correctly, I should measure from the buckle (where the leather folds over the buckle) to the middle hole. Is this correct? I also read that you should take your normal belt and add two inches to it. Which measurement will be more accurate?

Also, if you were to get a custom belt made what leather maker would you use?

I am wanting a belt to wear both when I am carrying and when I am not carrying.

Thanks,
Matt

you should measure your belt in the fashion that the belt maker you pick advises if you want yours to fit...won't do you any good to be "right" when your new belt doesn't fit...not all of them (but most seem to) measure the same way...your new belt will make a BIG difference as I too believe the proper belt and holster make carrying more comfortable as well as comforting.

The problem is that even if you follow the gun belt mfg. advise, it still might not fit properly depending on the holster you are wearing.

I suspect that any manufacturer will be able to provide you with the proper belt if you give them your normal belt size. They will will know how to size it for you.

I use a very thick belt from American Eagle... my gun is quite light so doesn't drag too much on my pants.

I use Don Hume belts and holsters and I always go a size larger due to the holster. It's just more comfortable to carry especially when you have camo's on and long johns.

+1 for Don Hume....

get a double thickness belt that is as wide as your holster/belt loops can accomodate.

Usually 1-3/4" is max.

might be 1-1/2" for dressier slacks.
