Yes, nice heavy construction, lined, doesn't sag and will last, for the most part, a lifetime. Purchased mine for under seventy bucks, plus shipping.

Does a purpose-designed gun belt really make that much difference to shell out the extra money for it?

Short answer, absolutely.

Longer answer, thickness of the belt. Nothing worse than trying to draw from a holster on a thin belt and having the holster come up with the gun, the holster flopping around all over the place, the holster sagging under the weight because it's being held up by a flimsy dress belt, etc....

Yuk.

I made my own. It's lasted several years now and is doing fine. You can get everything you need at Tandy Leather.

Thats pretty much what I do. My wife does alot of leather crafting and so on and she makes all my belts, since you can do any size you want, thickness of leather, different coatings and various types of leather. Also crafted leather slings, bags and alsorts. Its alot cheaper than buying premade stuff too and alot more personal.

JLStorm, if you're carrying with a highriding OWB all the time, you should probably consider it with 1.25 or mabye 1.5 belts, if you carry IWB, a regular 1.25 will hold up a gov't model 1911 just fine. It's twisting, not sagging that the stiffener addresses.

I have a Milt Sparks that I wear everyday and its 3 years old and still good to go.

If you don't want to wait you could always call up Lighting Arms http://www.lightningarms.com/ and they should have the Milt Sparks belt your looking for. You pay a little more, but they normally have everything on hand and I got my order in just a few days. I highly recommend them.

Try Dillon Precision in Scottsdale, AZ. I bought one of their belts back in 1998 for around $45, and been wearing it ever since, almost every day. Have it on me right now, and it still looks brand new.

I got my belt at home depot ,1/34 wide normally used as a construction belt for carring a pouch or carpenters hammer $6.95 ,then to the shoe repair guy to dye it black and polish it
$3.00 functions great ,the price is right , If need be you can have two or three in different colors .....works for me .:)
