Rep’s are concerned of trying and failing, thus pissing off both sides at once.

Translation: The party leadership knows that if the bill comes to a vote, some of their members will vote against it, and we'll vote against those Republicans in the fall. Whereas if they can block the vote, those members won't be exposed as anti-gun, and we can be tricked into voting for them.

This actually makes some sense.

I am also bewildered why people think Bush DOESNT support a ban. He has SAID he supports a ban. He said it before and after he was elected. He has had his SPOKESPEOPLE say that he supports a ban. Why doesnt anyone believe him?

Well, maybe some people figure that if you can't take his word about WMD, then you can't take his word about AWB.

Oh wait, those who took his word on the former, don't on the latter and vice versa.

So much for that theory.
