OP is just looking for simple letter or name engraving not some scenic work of art. He could just take the slide to any gunfriendly trophy or jewelers shop.

koginam, thank you very much for the kind words. I've visited here but hadn't registered until now. I'll be happy to answer anyone's questions. Also, if some folks here would like, and if it's ok with admin., I'll post pics of other projects as I finish them.

David,

Very nice work, and welcome to THR!

I'm in the retail trophy business, and am a lowly pantograph operator as well (I do have over 35 years experience). I do a little engraving on guns, mostly caliber designations on rifle barrels (maybe one or two barrels a week).

I hope you don't mind if I send some business your way.

Put me down for recommending ZipGraver. Hes done GREAT work for me with really fast turn around times. Once I got a gun back on Friday....I had sent it out on Monday, 5 days total including shipping time.

Here is an example of some of his work on my pistol:

A lot of variables come into play. How much you want done, how fast you want it, how good of a job you want done and how much you are willing to pay. In case you wanted some fancy scroll work around your name or want another gun done in the future, here are a few.

One person I would recomend without hesitation is Wayne D'Angelo, a former master engraver for S&W.

Another one of the top notch engraves id Jerome Glimm. He is in Montana, and does some very nice work.

And then, for not quite as good, but still presentable is a guy I saw for the first time the other day. He is in Spokane. Ryan Skiles. You can see his work at, www.flickr.com/htandb/photos , his email is [email protected] .

Good luck on whatever you decide.

Ed Montana at Homeland Defense and Police Supply does ATF spec manufacturer engraving (.003 deep, greater than 1/16" high) for $25- that gives your name, city, state. He does a very good job- you'll have your gun back about a week after you send it to him. If you contacted him, I bet he could probably help you out for not too much money.

Michael Gouse (mtart.com) did this M10 for me two years ago. The turn-around was about 90 days and the charge for 100% coverage was $500. I am happy with the results. Photos don't do the gun justice. Looks better in person.

I finished and fitted the polished stag stocks. Lower photo shows the gun in the El Paso Saddlery rig I had made for it.

I figured I owed myself one fancy gun. It's almost too nice for the likes of me.

I too have a Michael Gouse engraved S&W and I confirm it is indistinguishable from factory engraving at a much better price. I think when you are keeping the gun, everybody should treat themselves to at least one personalized gun.
