Hey everyone,

I have a quick question on a recommended gun for concealed carry purposes. However beware I’m sold on the 1911 style gun in .45 ACP (personal preference – the round just feels “right” and I am most accurate with it).

I have been looking at 4” barrels, and am looking between a Springfield and a Kimber. Anyone have a Kimber CDP? The little extras (bull barrel, front strap checkering, etc) on the Kimbers seem very nice, and the factory cost seems cheaper than it would to have the checking, etc done by my gunsmith. Or is that just what they want me to believe?

Thanks for your advice,

Tristan

Not exactly what you are asking, but here goes. I have two-a Colt Officers Model in hard chrome and an identical size Kimber Compact. It has the bull barrel but no checkering. It is a really nice gun-great shooter, completely reliable and very carry-able. I can only guess that the one you are looking at would make a really good CCW piece. Ever get a chance to shoot one?

Slaytera, I have already chosen .45 ACP. Sorry. :scrutiny:

Critter, I have tried several Springfields, but not yet found a CDP to test. :( No gun ranges near me seem to rent them, and none of my friends have one either.

I have shot other Kimbers though, and they are very nice.

By the way, for anyone's information there's a lot of good information here: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=210222 however it doesn't really cover smaller pistols, so recommendations are appreciated!

The Scandium-frame 4 1/4" S&W 1911Sc is supposed to be a nice carry pistol.

I have a Colt Commander I like a lot, and one I built from a Springfield frame. Both are aluminum frames. And don't buy the crap about they're only supposed to be shot a little. They do carry great. I won't carry steel frames anymore, I got used to carrying aluminum and am spoiled now.

I haven't checked out what Colt's offering these days. Mine are pretty well customized though. If I were in the market again, I'd look for a traditional 4 1/4" barrel. I find its easier to find holsters, parts, springs and such.

Just my .02 cents.

Here's what I like. S&W 1911 Commander Sc with Ed Brown Bobtail and lots of custom goodies on the inside. :D Light, concealable and plenty of power (can you tell I like .45ACP ;)

Ultra's

I carry a Kimber ProCarryII most of the time. Lightweight, accurate and easy to handle, plus it goes where you point it. Have a friend that carrys the Ultra CDP Stainless. It also does what it's suppose to do. My brother carries a Springfield MicroCompac, it too performs flawlessly. Pick your poison and have fun. All work well.
